Strange behaviour with IE10

I have bought three Windows 8 64 bit machines and upgraded them all to Windows Pro. The three machines are different makes.

All three machines have been added to our domain, and I am a domain admin.

I have been trying to navigate to a secure site on a https address, one machine goes there with no problem, but the other two just sit and do nothing, there is no error page, no warning , nothing. Does any one know of any reason this may be happening. I know its not a certificate issue as the https site does not require a client certificate to be installed.

I am at a total loss on this one. All browsers are set to the same compatibility settings

Yes, of course. Lots of reasons.

I'm assuming that you have set up a LAN. Local Area Network and have all three communicating.

But first you may want to go down, here, to the bottom "tutorials" and look up the procedures for configuring your LAN. Also you may want to head for the book store as it is unlikely that you will be able to obtain here all of the procedures and answers needed.

Briefly:

* Starting with the router, it has a password.

* Your computers need network cards. They may be built in and they may be outside purchased. If outside purchases they need to be plugged into the USB port and the little mini-disc run to install them. Some have tiny LED lights and a switch. They need to be turned on. If they are pre-installed they may need updating.

* Each computer has it's own password(s). And I do mean multiple passwords and user names. These become so extensive that they won't be remembered so a careful log should be made.

* Each computer has it's own name.

* There are very significant numbers of combinations of settings; home group, public, private, allow all users, restrict users, child protection. And encryption features in Win 8 Pro.

* The airplane setting must be turned off.

* All three computers must be turned on and awake. If one goes to sleep it won't be recognized.

It takes some time and effort to get everything right.

Hi Wetibbe,

Maybe I didn't explain myself properly or enough. These three machines are all sat on an internal network and are part of our domain. they are not on 'home groups' , nor are they wireless. I upgraded each machine to Windows 8 Pro straight out of the box, joined them to the domain and I am administration not only on each machine but also the entire domain. As I have been the only domain\user on these three machines , and all firewalls & anti virus have been switched off whilst trying to resolve this issue, I would suspect that it my be more an IE issue than a hardware issue, as other https sites are reachable by all three machines, and to be honest, personally, I have not heard of a hardware issue being selective as to which https site it choses to recgonoise

Sorry I still don't have a good handle on your setup.

You apparently have a hard wired LAN local area network. Part of your domain. I can't grasp the extent and composition of your domain. The LAN could be in the same room, or in the same home, or same office. A WAN is a wide area network normally in separate buildings.

When hard wiring computers only two can be directly connected using twisted pair cables. When three 3 computers are involved then it is customary to have a router installed. This is also called a switch or a hub.

Your ISP could come from phone lines or cable. If from phone lines each computer would need a phone jack nearby. If from cable first you would have a modem. The modem would connect to the router and the router would connect to the computer's each with a separate cable. In order to run the cables in a home, if in separate rooms it would be necessary to run cables through walls or over floors in inside walls and ceilings. The maximum to transmit over a cable is about 100 meters or roughly 330 yards.

Each computer would need a LAN card. *( Which may need updating ). To follow the Windows 8 setup it is necessary to name each computer, establish a home group and then go on to all of the rather elaborate procedures of separate user names and passwords. Then identify allowed users and set the public or private aspects among other considerations including protections and encryptions. These are too extensive to describe here..

Client/ server:

One computer may be a server, the others clients.

Peer to peer:

No central server, all computers act as servers.

Wide Area Network:

Components spread among buildings. I do not know if your domain includes this as a component of your Local Area Network.
However, WAN owners have found that when using a server computer *( That's a special type ) that they could not make the system work in Win 8. But it did work in Win 7. They found a workaround on their own which entailed going into the registry and making changes. That should only be done by a qualified network administrator.

The shapes of LAN's:

Bus topology
Token Ring
Star topology

I have the feeling that these are too complex to detail unless your LAN is a part of a much bigger domain such as a University or a big Corporation.

Each computer has it's own ISP address. Depending on your setup, if the ISP of some computers isn't recognized it may not work.

To give you the benefit of my own personal experience I set up a hard wired LAN some years back and it proved to be so aggravating and troublesome that I took it down. Microsoft later admitted that it was a problem.

In the past three months I set up a three computer LAN wireless and it works perfectly without problems now on IE10.

It isn't necessary to go to some other browser to make it work if properly configured.

We generally do not leave problems unresolved so we will stay with you until this is all worked out. So please feel free to comment further.

Good Luck

Are you good with trying a different browser on each machine. See what happens with, say, Chrome.

there is no logical reason for this to happen ,in the 2 that don't work ,turn off ie's popup blocker[in Tools] ,also in tools go to intenet options /general /tabs ,when a popup is encountered always open in a new window ,see if that makes any difference
