I am looking for a program something like what my library has on their computers. I want to be able to give each of the kids a username and password then when they log on a timer will automatically log them off say 30 min. but will also allow me to give them a max daily time limit. Or if this is possible within win 8 itself

Thanks
Paul

This isn't what I want. I want something that when they log on a timer will automatically start a countdown. I don't want to set for each child when they can log on. I know there is software out there because our library uses it. The logons are thru the software not windows. If I use my library computers, they have a logon box at the bottom of the screen, I put in my library card number and my password. It logs me in and is set for an hour at which time it will log me off and restart for the nest person that wants to use it.

How about running a logon script that does a simple shutdown /l /t 1800 (1800 = 30 minutes).

Create a simple batch file with the following single line in it.

shutdown /l /t 1800

Save it as StartupLimiter.bat.

Place a link to it in %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

When you reboot, the batch file should run and set shutdown for 30 minutes.

I think if you place the link in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup it will run for each user when they login. I'll try it now and see what happens.

Rats, that doesn't work at all. The batch file runs but the /t 1800 parameter does not work so I can't defer the logoff for up to 30 minutes.

/l = This option will immediately log off the current user on the current machine. You can not use the /l option with the /m option to log off a remote computer. The /d, /t, and /c options are also not available with /l.
I'm sure you could do this with a VB script or perhaps a power shell script but unfortunately, I'm not very good with either. Maybe someone else who is can help.
