As far as some people raving how wonderful 8 is while too many are dissatisfied with how MS tore up the desktop OS you have to weigh the balances correctly by looking at the actual facts that some accuse others of simply bashing 8 rather then taking a look themselves. MS is selling a new line of Tablets and wanted the next version to look the same.
It's that simple! It didn't matter if the desktop OS got trashed in the process. "We'll make up for it the next time!" seems to be the MS mentality for promoting Surface over their main Desktop OS. And the tablet gui simply doesn't work well on the desktop platform even if some people do not want to hear actual facts!
As I said when first having a look at the CP last year this one is going to see all kinds and mixes of opinions!

The key you own will give you the version you are entitled to, and of course, you also have to be careful, it will choose between x86 and x86-64 based on the computer you run it on...

Look before you leap.
There are lots of aspects to consider.
Age of computer.
Age of OS and Version.
32 bit or 64 bit.
Win 8 regular or Win 8 Pro.
If the upgrade encounters problems there are several reasons.
