Problem! Key in BIOS but I can't use Windows defender!

Applied new SSD to Laptop but can't use the Product key as I don't know what it is as it's in the BIOS. Key is needed for Windows defender to function.
Any help appreciated!

Don't understand why you would need the product key for Defender to work. Is any other AV running on your machine?

OK, so what indication are you given, and what are you doing, when you apparently are notified that you need the product key? Trying to scan?

Hi theog, I was trying to copy my HDD OS to an SSD so I could use the SSD in my laptop which has UEFI. The problems I came across were Authentication of the product key and then Windows Defender would not work! I was OK to Authenticate by phone to MS but Defender still did not work. I have also just found out that there are some "suspicious" files on my laptop even after a fresh install with no third party Installations. One was Microsofts Camera .exe from the 'Start' menu.

Paragon will shrink the partitions to suit.

I see Paragon you have to pay for when Macrium reflect and Minitool are free.

The way it can be achieved is to
Clone the disk with Macrium
Then shrink C: with Minitool
Then clone back to SSD.

Odd that! I obviously went for the one that said free download then it asked for the serial number...
Never mind though I was able to do it with Macrium and Minitool with a few complications with them both not liking being on the same computer...

I just looked at your link for Paragon, I think it has changed to paid version....
