My laptop was frozen and I couldn't get to my start menu to restart it so I did a hard reboot. Now when I try to start the blue windows icon comes up for a few seconds with the rotating dots then the screen goes black. Eventually I hear the windows start up sound, but nothing on the screen.

The screen has a slight amount of light on it. If I hit the power button for a second it will go to sleep when I push it again you can hear the disks turn back on but the smell dim screen. You cannot see the desktop, etc.

Do you have an install DVD or flash drive or a system repair disk? If yes, can you could try an automatic (startup) repair. But, I am pessimistic on you finding such a simple fix.

Is your computer in warranty. If yes, you could call your OEM support.

Refresh is a good option for you to try provided your files are well backed up. Hope it works.

I did the refresh, reinstalled most of my programs. A few days later it quit playing the screens average and turning the screen of at the appointed time. Soooooo I decided to close the top for him night. When I opened it in the morning only the back light would come on. It has been at Best Buy since Sunday. The first diagnostic showed no hardware problems they are running another test today. Any ideas? Thanks!

I don't really have any ideas I'd care to speculate about. But, I'd be interest to know what Best Buy finds out.

Best Buy ran diagnostics for 4 days and couldn't get any of the tests to complete so they sent it off to a higher level of support. Glad I purchased the protection plan again. I'll update when it gets back.

My laptop came back. I reinstalled Windows 8 overnight. When it restarts the account that shows up is administrator. When I click on it a message come up that says your account has been disabled. Please see your system administrator. Any ideas?
