In the advanced option I got no BIOS options there. How do I find it or I missed something?

I mean, there is no "UEFI Firmware Settings" there. I've included a screenshot.

What make and model computer .. about how old ?
Bios settings keys don't show on the screen at start up with typical win8 shutdown - because shutdown is actually a type of hibernate.
When you Restart win8 it will show briefly on the bios screen what the key press is... at the moment it starts up.
That's how my laptop is anyhow. about a 1yr old Lenovo.

Did it comes with 8 or did you upgrade.

From the research I have done it looks like models that were shipped with 7 are BIOS not UEFI, which is why it's not in your advanced boot menu.

Either way, provided you haven't got quick boot enabled, you should be able to press a button to enter BIOS during boot, either from shutdown or restart.

Does your laptop have software that came with it that can change "BIOS" setting from within the OS?

Hi there
That screenshot from the OP shows a WINDOWS start screen not a BIOS.

To get into the BIOS you need to press probably ether the DEL key or F2 or F8 or F12 depending on your computer at the same time you boot.

At the present time ALL computers can't function without a BIOS -- when the machine is first powered on it has to load a Bootstrap program from hardware which then loads the rest of the code that can then now read say the HDD to load and start the OS.

What happens is at switch on the Hardware has to execute basically TWO instructions

1) Load and execute instruction at memory XXXX.

2) Instruction at memory XXXX loads chunk of code into memory and transfers control to code loaded -- this now loads the rest of the BIOS and starts the OS.

This is a simplified version of the bootstrap but the ist two instructions are known in OS development (any OS will have these - even specialized one's in your domestic DVD recorder for example) as "Bootstrapping".

Once you've got the BIOS screen you can then select boot devices and other options. There's no way your machine doesn't have a BIOS.

I can't confirm, through modest searching on the the Acer site, that your computer has UEFI. No UEFI, then no UEFI Firmware Settings. But, I guess you know for sure, right?

Yes, UEFI. Before doing something drastic, you could talk to Acer support to see what they think the issue is. And, I presume you could return to factory fresh to see if the machine aways was lacking the UEFI Firmware Settings selection. Backup your files of course.

Hi there

I thought this was a post about No BIOS in the machine --all these shots are of WINDOWS Screens -- if your problem is WINDOWS / DIsks etc then that's OK but please keep the title relevant to what your problem is (or what you think it might be).

Cheers
jimbo.

I asked to make sure the OP had a UEFI/BIOS firmware.

Therefore as OP has UEFI/BIOS firmware, the link should be in the Startup Options.
