Solved Windows 8 , Switching apps / Browser settings. + Hiya

Hi guys , just signed up to this forum as it seems like its great for windows help and other things.

I just brought a new every day medium range laptop after my PC gave up after about 8 years. Its a;[h=1]
HP Pavilion g6-2230sa 15.6"
AMD A8-4500M processor[/h]

• Windows 8
• Memory: 8 GB
• Hard drive: 750gb

And after a few hours of getting my head around windows 8 in general i really like it, its soft and easy on the eye. It makes things more personal well it feels like it does anyways haha. Ive been using my laptop for browsing,downloading and a little bit of gaming and have come across only two problems which are the following. If any one could tell me the problem or any sort of resolution it would be very grate full.

1 - Browser issue , When using Google Chrome browser i cannot select certain things like inserted links.
eg - Facebook cannot add freinds using the 'add' icon.
-Cannot click downloads which say 'click here' it does nothing i have to open them in new tabs. why is this??

2 - Toggle issue, if i open up some apps say like Mail or Calender when i am not in the apps it sometimes flicks to them with the touch of the mouse pad why i cant work out what is making it do this its not a double click or moving it left they just pop up after touching the mouse.

I have shockwave flash player and java installed that did not resolve the browser issue.

Hello Walshy, and welcome to Eight Forums.


Q1) Not sure about this one. If you have any installed extension in Chrome, then you might temporarily disable them to see if it may help.


Q2) This sounds like it may be the touchpad Edge Swipes feature. It's suppose to help make using the Charms bar, app Switcher, and Application bar easier, but often it makes it to easy to do so by mistake. In your case, it sounds like you're using Switcher by mistake with this feature to open the apps with. The tutorial below can help show you how to disable the touchpad Edge Swipes feature. It may be a bit different on how to for your system, but it should help get you there.

Brillant thanks so much the problem Q2 has been resolved that will stop me getting anooyed im confused with my browser still i have disabled all my Chrome and apps and its still not changed i used the same chrome settings on my pc and it worked fine i cant open various things on facebook and when i check notifactions they still stay at the top, its really werid.

This is just a wild guess in Q1. Try clicking tools > options or settings in google chrome

Yeah i have tried using the tools in google chrome still nothing i love using chrome but not being able to use it for certain things now is anoying.

Just something to try with Chrome, see if turning GPU hardware acceleration off or on may make any difference either way.

Have you tried Windows 8 Mode ?

Yeah tried that as well still does not work in windows 8 or desktop mode.

I dont know what ive done as ive been messing with the settings but i have some how fixed it yayyyy.. thanks for all the help.

The problem was , as my laptop was new it nedded various updates through windows I had done almost all of them and after restarting the laptop did the final updates and the problems were fixed. The problem was to do with windows and not chrome.
