Opening an OpenOffice doument in File Explorer in Win. 8.

I have an existing OpenOffice document, (it's actually a 375 page book of Spanish) in File Explorer's 'Documents' that I transferred from an old XP laptop by flash drive. All my other documents except .doc & the Oo one, which is: .odt have opened up successfully. I downloaded Oo 3.4.1 which is the latest one. It will by right clicking & selecting 'Open with', after a long period open in Wordpad but a lot of the lines have jumped out of column. I tried right clicking, selecting 'Share with' & 'Specific people' & typed in 'Administrator'' along with my User name of robinp. It didn't solve the problem. I'm going to have a try at right clicking & selecting 'Properties'>'Security', etc. & trying that route. Any suggestions?

You may want to go back to the old laptop and open the file; then save it as another format like DOC or something other than it's current format. Better still , RTF ot TXT would be work sure sure, but may lack correct formatting.

Yes, the document will still open in my old XP laptop. No, I can't convert it to another format like .rtf, etc. When I do that all the columns jump out of line. Thanks for answering anyway.

Well I've found a solution. I clicked on the shortcut on the desktop. A 'User Account Control' dialog box opens. I selected 'Yes'. The 'Apache OpenOffice' selection box opens up. I selected 'Open'. An 'Open' box opens up with all the 'Documents' listed. I selected the .odt document in question which went into the 'File name' box. I clicked on 'Open' & my document opened up in the Apache OpenOffice .odt format. Everything in good order & all the columns are in line. Thanks guys for your suggestions.
