What went wrong

Last year I was running Windows 8 Release Preview on my desktop and I was quite impressed with this speed and stability of the system. The new interface did not worry me I soon got used to that. So for the first time ever as soon as Windows 8 was released I purchased it. In the past I have always waited to see how a new operating system performs before I even contemplate it.

I knew as soon as I installed the release of Windows 8 and installed it it was not the same. So much so that after a day or so I took it off and reinstalled it. Software that had been running perfectly okay on release preview seem to be struggling on the release.

Some time in December Windows 8 come crashing down. I had made an image backup and I'm pretty good at my data backup so nothing was really lost. I tried to recover the image but Windows update had difficulty finding the image and when it did it refused to open it. I finally did another clean install but this time I used Clonezilla.

And more recently, a game Windows 8, up with errors when trying to boot. I tried to use the repair functions on the Windows 8 disc but after spending about 30 minutes whilst it scanned everything it told me it was unrepairable. As a last resort I've bought a Windows 7 disk in and within a few seconds I was able to boot up my Windows 8.

Two of my acquaintances have had similar problems, one unfortunately lost some very important data.

The end of the story is that I went out and bought a new copy of Windows 7 Professional and that is where I met today. Looking around on the net although I did not see similar things in this forum, but many Windows 8 users are switching back to Windows 7. It has been a very costly exercise but I need a stable system and something that I don't need to be tinkering with all the time.

The 2 most important things to remember when installing windows 8 is that your system has the actual windows 8 drivers for your hardware and that you have the latest BIOS installed to ensure the stability of the OS.

With your post, I really couldn't understand what version of windows 8 your are using. Are you using one of the beta builds or did you actually purchase a copy of windows 8/8 pro?

if you ever decide to give it another go, make sure everything in the Device Manager is nice and clean. Also check to see the last programmes you installed.

If you find you can't boot up or get a BSOD go into safe mode straight after booting. I've found that the repair is pretty useless, but you can nearly always go into safe mode. From there remove the latest programme you've installed or the latest drivers, I've also found problems with the latest display drivers on one of my machines, rolled them back and everything was okay.

I'd also turn on restore as its not turned on automatically, and set a restore point.

Even with a few problems lately I can't go back to Windows 7, I just don't like it anymore.

I have been using windows 8 from release no issue with stability. I have a copy of on three PCs (laptop, net top, work PC)

The only issue I am experiencing is wireless driver issue on the old acer net top, but these sorts of things are to be expected running the latest OS.

I cannot foresee me going back to windows 7.
