Drag and Drop Does Not Work on Some Software

    Hi everyone!

I have a small but (slightly) annoying problem with Windows 8, and was hoping someone might be able to help me with it. It's not a big deal, but it bugs me a little.

First, I'll say that my computer is a Hewlett Packard HPE-310t, which is a couple of years old. It has 8 GB of RAM, an Intel i5 quad-core 2.67 GhZ processor, and an ATI Radeon HD 5450 video card (not sure how much video RAM it has).

It had Windows 7 Home Premium on it.

I purchased an upgrade to Windows 8, formatted the hard drive (after backing up my valuable data, of course), and installed Windows 8 on it clean.

Here's the problem: The drag-and-drop feature doesn't work on some freeware and shareware programs. On others, it works, but not the same way that it did on Windows 7.

This isn't a serious problem--it's more annoying than anything else--but several friends and colleagues tried these programs on their computers with Windows 8, and they claimed they had no issues with drag-and-drop.

One particular freeware utility I use is Freemake Video Converter. Drag-and-Drop doesn't work at all with it. I can still use the program, but I cannot drag video files into it.

Another utility I have trouble with is called Flash Renamer. I paid for this shareware and am a registered user. In order to use Drag-and-Drop, I have to drop the files on the taskbar icon. Flash Renamer maximizes when I do this, and I can then load the files into the program. With Windows 7, dropping onto the taskbar icon is not necessary--I can drop the files directly into the open program.

I realize the possibility exists that this is not a Windows 8 problem as much as it might be an application design issue, but then the question is: Why does it (supposedly) work on other people's computers, but not mine?
To the best of my knowledge, all of my drivers and firmware are up to date, including the most current BIOS I know of for this computer.

I also realize that the programs I'm having problems with are comparatively minor ones. Office 2010 Home & Student works fine, as do several other freeware and shareware programs I use.

But it's still a touch frustrating not to have Drag-and-Drop, when I had it with Windows 7 (which I went back to, by the way). So ,if anyone has any ideas on how to workaround this glitch, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! J. Danniel
