How do I turn on Windows Defender in Windows 8?

I don't know if I turned off Windows Defender when I first got my computer, or if it was never originally on, but I can't figure out how to turn it on right now. My Norton's Security just ended and I need to turn Defender on to keep my computer safe. When I click on Windows Defender to open the program, it tells me Windows Defender has been turned off and if I'm using another program for malicious software to visit the Action Center to check that app's status. Do I have to completely uninstall Norton's for Defender to open? I'm stuck. Help

Yes, Norton is your problem. Go to the Norton website, and use the uninstaller provided there.
