It should run. I am running it on a pentium d dual core.

It most likely will not run to it's potential, that is why I have a new set up on way via fedex.

There is a piece of software you can run to check your system.

BUT it will only tell you if it will run, not how well it will run.

Heck yes it will work, core 2 duo's are plenty fast and you can build a fast reliable machine for next to nothing using one of those CPU's.

Go with 8GB memory if possible and use an SSD drive if you want extra fast everything.

have a duel core acer laptop 4gig ram 320 hdd that will run win8 but i cant use it because of lack of drivers for motherboard devices ,so the answer is not always a simple yes !,

Yes it is that simple and yes there will most likely be compatible Windows 8 drivers for this basic desktop board, it's very likely they will be installed before the user ever reaches the desktop, as was the case with my equally old Nvidia board.

Laptops can be a bit trickier to find drivers for.

Thanks all. The computer was built 3 or 4 or 5 years ago. At the time I had (and I still have 1) 2 uninstalled XP Pro CD's and the computer is running XP Pro SP3. I never wanted Vista but I am interested in finding out how the new interface works so I want to put in a second OS drive (I have a hard drive bay in the computer and an old 7200 RPM hard drive in a dock that fits in the bay). My C drive is a SATA and the bay is an IDE (already in the computer) So I want to dual boot so I can mess with Win 8 and still keep my old setup, as I am a masonry estimator, and the computer I want to try Win 8 64 bit is my work computer. So I am thinking I can update my MS Office and OS and Bluebeam blue pint editing, measuring, and markup software little by little and still keep my office box running as it is right now.

I am wondering if the thing will dual boot (one OS at a time) between XP SP3 32 bit and Win 8 64 bit.

Or I can just buy a new computer with Win 8 already on it. I don't need anything supercharged, the work I am doing on it is un-intensive so it does not need a rapid response. I think I can get drivers for my video card, as it is new this season because I need a huge screen for blueprint reading so I got one that will run an HDTV or the 36" monitor I bought with the video card.

As the PC is running XP SP3, you can run the Upgrade Assistant on it. It's not guaranteed to identify every driver issue, but it's a start.

As the $40 Win8 Pro promotional upgrade offer has expired, it's a lot less attractive to play with Win8 on an old system, unless you have some other inexpensive source for the OS. (My opinion.)
