Have just bought a laptop which is installed with W8.

Can somebody please advise how to go about making some recovery discs. What files need to be downloaded and how many discs do I need.

I am not an IT expert so some basic advise would be appreciated

See my sig. In the interim, you could make a system image backup and a system repair disc.

Thanks for the reply.

If I download and make a set of System Recovery Discs do I also need to make system image backup and a system repair disc as well?

You are very welcome. You would need a system image backup(s) only if you want to be able to restore a "snapshot(s)" of your disk from a particular point(s) in time--which actually is a very good thing to be able to do--since you can have images from different points in time when your system is running well. Having a system repair disc can be handy, but not as important as having disk images from different points in time. It still wouldn't hurt to have one.

The link below from Dell can help show you how to create a set of recovery discs.

Creating Your System Recovery Discs with Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 | Dell

You could also request a set of backup discs from Dell at the link below.

Dell - Support

Hope this helps, :)

Hi Shawn

Got some discs today to set about creating the backup discs.

However, trying to follow: Creating Your System Recovery Discs with Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 | Dell I get stuck straight away as this relates to W7. Whilst I am sure it is the same I can't find
vista_pearl_transparent.gif
so at this stage I do not know how to find 'All Programs' let alone Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0. Can you please advise?

Hello Rudge,

No worries. :)

You should be able to do a search for "Dell Backup" to find it to run using OPTION ONE in the tutorial below.

In addition, I found this at Dell that can help more with this.

It would seem that Dell DataSafe does not exist as nothing is found with a search.

However, I have managed to get to the right page via the Dell Backup and Recovery tile and create the System discs.

Thanks for your help.

I have some other questions/issues but will create a separate post for it/them.

I spoke too soon.

The first disc took 45 mins and then gave the message that there was an error. The disc is still trapped inside and I cannot open the tray?

Any suggestions what the problem may have been and how I get the disc out?

Do I have to try another disc or can I re-use the first one or do I have to get in touch with Dell? Why they simply dont supply the backup discs is beyond me!

Have managed to get the disc out, but when I shut it down an error message flashed up. When I then re-booted it now goes to a 'Boot mode is set to:UEFI; Secure boot:ON' mode.

Did a Diagnostics and it has identified a Video Card problem: Error Code: 2000-0332, Validation 129053.

As a new unit it will have to be replaced. Absolutely gutted. I've had no problems with my 4 yr old Dell but immediate problems with the new one.

System image backup might have helped when it comes to the new machine (not sure though). Always a good idea, me thinks. Good luck with the new machine.
