Sleep won't turn off computer after set time

 The display and the sleep feature timers do not work. I just did a complete restore to try and correct this problem and another problem, which was no restore points and no ability to create one. The restore points are working for now, I mean that I was able to create a restore point. The display and sleep timer, not so, still a problem.

I've had this desktop Win8 computer since November and honestly I don't know if this has been a problem the whole time or not. Definitely, not the display, I know it has worked, but the sleep timer I'm not sure. I set the timer and just assume it sleeps and then goes into hibernation after a certain amount of time. With all the refreshing and restoring and changing over to this computer, I've not been paying much attention to the sound of the fan or the missing orange color on the power button (not visible, on the side of the computer).

I've set the timer through the Power Options feature in the Control Panel to 10 minutes for the sleep and to turn off the display to 3 minutes. Neither of them respond after set times. The computer is still wide awake and the display is not gone.

I have also gone to the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box and turned off the hybrid sleep, which didn't help, and the Multimedia Settings in this menu box to turn on the setting "Allow The Computer To Sleep". Neither of these fixes did anything.

How can the computer not respond to something so basic and fundamental to its design?

Lastly, I'm wondering how this idea of powering down works at all. What I would like is for the computer to sleep after 20 minutes and then go into hibernation after 45 minutes. This would be when I'm done for the day. I have set the hibernation time in the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box, but of course that does not respond either.

Can't believe I need to post help for this sort of problem.

Try pushing...
:winkey:+X then A to open CMD as admin

type...
POWERCFG /REQUESTS
Does anything come up? It will list services and drivers that are requesting the computer to stay awake.

If nothing, type...

POWERCFG /ENERGY
When the report finishes type...
MOVE ENERGY-REPORT.HTML C:\
This will move the file from the sys32 folder into the root of C so that you can open it.
Go to C drive root and open the report.

The report will tell you if something is preventing sleep.

Post your results of both reports if you'd be so kind.

:sarc:Thank you for the instructions. I'm sending it all to you because it doesn't register much for me. It seems helpful, but I wouldn't know how to make it helpful in solving this problem. I don't know what 'file system srvnet' is.

I'm sending 3 attachments.

How about providing more info about your computer--OEM, etc. Just provides a better foundation for helping. Sounds like an Win8/OEM that has provided a retore to factory fresh option. Are you still in warranty? I presume yes. How about do you still have free phone support at this time? I'm not as sure.

I would take advantage of all OEM help at this point. I would bet that your problems always have been there since you did a "restore"--which didn't help. I would even move to returning the machine if they can't fix it via support--given that restore doesn't fix it.

Per request from last responder, I am attaching system info acquired from Administrative Tools>System Information. I'm wondering if JohnOfE had any insights from the info provided in my last post, haven't heard back. Or does anyone understand that info beyond my cut, copy and paste computer basics.

Thank you. You say: "can't believe I need to post help for this sort of problem." I stand by my advice in post #4. Sorry I can't provide additional help. I think the problem is at the OEM end.

Whoa! What are you talking about? "Zero Computer Savvy" here, but can follow detailed directions easily.

I just pasted the prescribed path into admin. command prompt and clicked "Enter", nothing happened. It brought up original first line again, Windows System 32 or whatever.

Sorry about not getting back to this.
Your report shows one thing preventing sleep. While my energy report shows the same thing, you may want to invest a bit of time googling this issue. Heres a thread you may want to look at:

Why Won’t Windows Automatically Sleep? » Boydo's Tech Talk

Just google "srvnet" and you'll see a ton of results for people with the same issue as you.

Beware! It may not really be the cause of your problem, but you should check it out. I'm sorry I don't know the solution.

The powercfg report suggest a remote client is keeping the system awake. In my case, it was a local device, which turned out to be a TV on which I had set the system to be a media server. I had the same srvnet.exe message..just a different source.

But I found my problem by opening Resource monitor and looking at the TCP connections on the Networking tab. If you see a remote address communication with that system, it might be the cause. If you have many IP address accessing the system, try turning off devices to narrow the possibilities.

Also, my feeling is that you have very short times set to turn off the display and sleep. It might be fine, but you might increase them to 10-15 and 25-30 for testing.

My HP laptop too was neither turning off the display nor sleeping after the mentioned time. I have done all possible optimizations using AVG PC TuneUp 2015. Now it is both turning off the display and also sleeping after the mentioned time. I think doing so has fixed the problem.
