More support for older (read XP) programs and device drivers. No need to have to buy new peripherals each time MS decides a new OS is due.
Ability to swap hardware and stay activated without calling MS.
Will take advantage of multi-core CPU's.
    Lower minimum hardware requirements.
    Built-in Star Trek channel.

#1 Apple does not provide any backward compatibility and that is why in many respects they are more successful. I for one do not want any more backwards compatibility. MS finally stopped supporting DOS and Windows 3.11, now let’s drop Windows NT, Window 2000 and XP so we can move forward to new things, faster, safer, better search, etc. in other words a better operating system.
#2 MS does the hardware change re-activation to slow people down from stealing the OS or miss-using it. They will not stop that unless you can get everyone to use the OS correctly, Oh wait you must not want to use it correctly or you would not be asking for this.
#3 Windows 7 does use multi-core CPU's and uses them well, however most of the software does not. So I think this should be directed to the software vendors.
#4 Lower the standard hardware, are you kidding me, they have already done this because of the disaster with Vista. No, No, No, with hardware so cheap now-a-days it is as low as it needs to be.
#5 Again, no, we have the internet, no need for Star Trek Channel. I don’t want the OS with too many extras, even though I am a huge Star Trek Fan. (and yes I am sure this was a joke).

Just my 2 cents - WS

Not sure how it would be implemented but I fantasize about this:

    - 2 or more drives installed in a computer
    - C: drive hosts only the OS
    - D: drive is partitioned for all installed programs

The ability to clean install Windows on C: and a wizard style app could be ran to sense what programs to migrate into the clean install, (edit) that were once installed previously.

I'm in full support of legal OS's bud. But one should be able to change hardware WITHOUT MS intervention.

This is all possible now Ageeb, except for the wizard thingy maybe.
Many people are using a SSD (solid state drive) for the OS and a normal spinning Hard Drive for programs and files.

I think they should have a TAB system for your computer browser like Firefox and IE the one in Windows 7 is OK but it would be nice to see something different.

I think i didn't get my point across very well so I edited my last post. For clarity's sake, Windows get's installed on C:, D: get's populated with programs over time. At some point a clean install is issued to C: and will recognize all previously installed programs (wizard just for user-friendlyness).
    If it was interpreted correctly,
How is it possible? How would the registry populate properly? Do teach...

Yes, I'm part of that population with 2 SSD's and a spinner, of which, I monkey around with setups all the time.

It would be possible if some parts of the registry were saved on D:\ and read by the setup program. I think it's totaly feasible !

    What I want there ......
    1. Cover Flow explorer
    2. A media player as powerful as VLC and as beautiful as WMP
    3. XP like animated network indication
    4. disintegration between folder thumbnail preview and file thumbnail preview .... as I may want to not see the the live folders, but want to keep the file thumbnails enabled .
    5. No per class icons ... so that I can change any individual icon .
    6. XP like folder Thumbnail view option
    7. A start menu that is easier to use .
    8. A disk management utility that is easier to manage

    OPTIONAL ...
    1. It would be cool if the backup and restore option looks as nice as time machine
    2. Eyecandy applications like Compiz .

    That's all, till now !

    1. As with Windows 7, I would love to see the Windows Media Player completely redesigned! More skins, new skins, more visualizations, better ripping options, improved tag editing, tweaked metadata reading to automatically reference dirpaths in conjunctin with each individual sort option (WMP12 has a problem of not properly displaying albums with multiple disks, despite if the Disc tag exists), improved EQ...

    2. Moving on... Possible excludement of Media Center from the core of the system and having it as an available download instead? The first thing I did on each of my Win7 install is to disable Media Center.

    3. Better customization! Why allow other applications like the awful WindowBlinds to hog the system and take all the money? Improve the skinning engine and make it easier for advanced users to create and use their own themes (visual styles!). Imagine an official Microsoft supported social hub with tons of themes made by members, for members! Changing the Aero color and adding pretty wallpapers like in 7 just isn't enough, especially since the default look of 7 is, IMHO, pretty damn ugly compared to Vista. Make it easier to change icons and cursors through packages and include support for flipping through multiple themes in a certain time period, like we have the option with wallpapers in 7.

    4. Improved Gadgets Platform! I don't remember ever seeing a new gadget from Microsoft upon the release of Vista. An option to include the sidebar ruler would be nice, but without pinning the gadgets one right below the other like in Vista.

    5. Redesign the systray! According to recent screenshot leaks of Windows 8, I feel like the systray is becoming an overburden for the look and feel of the taskbar. Perhaps something like the Copenhagen concept would be perfectly suitable, a small popup over the clock/date that reveals the systray instead of simply choosing which icons to choose to display and hide. Or perhaps, why not integrate individual systray icons into the pinned taskbar icons altogether, granting the ability to control certain applications from one central place of the Desktop.

    6. "My" documents? The main reason I still keep two partitions on my HDD isn't because I'm afraid of the loss of data (in over 7 years of using PCs I've had this happen to me only once!), but because any installed program can simply place a folder in my User folder, and create chaos. Multiple savegame folders (Games, My Games, savegames, Bioware, EA, blah blah blah blah), Documents folder filled with crap nobody actually needs all the time (messeger conversations history, Rainmeter skins, certain softwares' temporary files, special savefiles etc. etc. etc.). So why not improve the User folder to actually contain User files and folders only, individual from any files created outside the Program Files folder by installed software. If not confine those kind of file to AppData, confide them to Program Files instead!

There might be more as soon as I remember more, lol
This, of course, is my wishful thinking more than actual rational comments, except, perhaps, WMP xD
