What would you like to see in Windows 8?

What I'd most like to see: Options! Options! Options! Seriously! I get so angry when some teckky makes decisions for the whole user population based on, what appears to be, very narrow ranges of consumer uses, and then doesn't give those of us who want to be able to do other things with our systems, the option to do so!!!

I can only see a use for 128 bit once our current "main stream" processors have 4-6 cores and our "power user" processors rate 6-12 cores.

Well, in my opinion a 128-bit OS is actually something beyound Pluto. We don't even make use of all 64-bit potential.

    ~edit~

Built-in MultiPoint features for home use would be nice.

I agree. We do not make use of 64 bit enough. Not to mention 64 Bit cannot emulate 16 bit. With that in mind 128 bit more thank likely couldnt handle 32 bit. Which at this current point in time about half current applications still only come in 32 bit .

Or Ms could force a 64 bit transition by not releasing an x86 build. yes its highly unlikely, but in the end they(MS) have the power to develop in any way they find necessary or in their favor.

I'm hoping for a new user interface that shows simplicity that is more user friendly. The design of windows 7 was a turn in the right direction but took 9 years which is for me disappointing. It's been the same design since windows 95 sure there are a few new features but it hasn't changed enough. The start button is just outdated in terms of design. Looking through a directory? That just seems to waste more time the search feature is great but other than that the list of programs is kind eh and they waste a button to be used for shortcuts as a windows button. It's nice to have a focus on gaming but I would rather see windows broaden it's audience. Designers as audience would be nice with the basic fonts like Helvetica and better display of fonts and color management.

The switching of windows has gotten better and more useful with aero but I'd like to see something even more efficient.

Quick question, would you rather have directories, or have all of your individual files an the root of the hdd/sdd? Think how "ORGANIZED" your life would be without directories

One thing I would love to see is audio muting based on what windows is active.

Let's say you have IE open on youtube playing a video.
At the same time you're watching a video in the Zune Software.

As long Zune is the "active" program you only get audio from there and not from IE.

The reason I want this is because of my HTPCs, I often watch one sports event in Mediaportal and at the same time I have another event in IE up on a second screen. Today if I want to switch the audio from Mediaportal to IE I have to mute mediaportal, then turn up the volume on IE, but with this functionality I'll just have to du a alt+tab or mouse click to move to the audio from IE.

    ----------------------------

Another function that I came up with now that I was rereading Paul Thurrots blogpost from last june, and the part where it says they want to expand the "play to" functionality to also work for HTML5 based media on the web is to have a TVersity like function built into "PlayTo". The stuff that can actually be played back with DLNA is rater limited, but if they had on the fly transcoding playto could work with any conten we threw at it.

    ------------------
Oh and I'd love a good MKV splitter and codecs that support bitstreaming DTSHD/TrueHD.

How can you possibly want to remove the windows button on the keyboard?
