Solved Accidentally Switching Apps/Windows

Hey All,

This is my first post in the forums so I apologize if this is not the proper forum to post in for general questions but this is the most realistic place that I saw.

My cousin texted me the other day asking me if I knew how to help her because a lot of times when she moves her mouse it will change apps/windows. I don't know much about windows 8 because the last time I used it was when it was in developer preview and this is definitely not a problem which pertains to windows 7 to I wanted to go to the community for help! It seems like it is a pretty simple issue because I haven't seen much information regarding it so it seems like she might be doing something silly that she doesn't realize. She told me that it doesn't happen every time she moves the mouse across the screen only most of the time. I would have tried to help her myself, but she lives hours away so I can really only help her over the phone. Any information anyone could provide regarding this would be highly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello Nschiwy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You might have her check in her mouse settings to see if she may be pressing a mouse button that is set to switch through open windows, and accidentally selecting them to switch to that way.

Another item is to see if she may have "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse" turned on.

Hope this helps for now, :)

Hey Shawn!

I appreciate your response. It seems as though, she said that this is somehow "the opposite" of her problem. She told me after I sent her the link you suggested that it somehow brings up windows that she had used and since closed. Is there some sort of "recent apps" function that she could somehow be accidentally activating? I'm guessing that she's using a laptop, I didn't even ask, so maybe there is a gesture that she is making that she doesn't realize?

It's starting to sound like she may be accidentally using Switcher, and switching to opened apps.

If it's a touchpad from a laptop, then turning off the "activation gesture" and "edge swipes" settings for it may help prevent accidentally opening them if this may be the case.

That sounds right to me, too. Thanks! I will be sure to forward this on to her and let you know whether it works.

As we both suspected, that was the problem. Thanks so much for your help, I couldn't have figured it out without you!
