If I create a folder Windows 8 it's read only. i have to right click on the folder and uncheck read only.
If i extract a zip file and tell it to extract to a folder. the folder it creates is read only.
happens under both login accounts. Any ideas?

Hello Dr Haze,

In Windows, folders cannot be set as read-only. Only the files in the folders can be.

If the read-only box for the folder looks like this 253029d1359618423-read-only-file-folder-attribute-dot.jpg, then it is only the default neutral setting.

Only when you check the box 253030d1359618423-read-only-file-folder-attribute-checked.jpg, and click on OK will the files in the folder will be set a read-only.

If you have the box empty 253028d1359618423-read-only-file-folder-attribute-empty.jpg, and click on OK, then all files in the folder will be set as not read-only.

Hope this helps, :)

It's not strange at all since that's what it's suppose to do.

16162d1360175162-if-i-create-extract-folder-windows-8-its-read-only-253029d1359618423-read-only-.jpg is the default neutral setting. It does not mark the files in folders as anything (read-only or not read-only).

Please re-read what I posted above and the tutorial link there. Only when you do that will the files in the folder get marked. :)

But i cannot delete folders.see screenshot and description

Ok but i must need to adjust something else then. I have UAC off. I unzip something or pick anyfolder to delete it says this error basically i need to be administrator. Which I am a local administrator so i should just be able to delete a folder without being questioned.
I believe the problem is this old account that is no longer in users to delete so i don't know what to do.

none of that works.

all folders on all drives are read only. I've 'taken' ownership.. nothing and done everything else inbetween. 2nd day on the forums searching.. nothing works.
