I am a little bit confused. I have been advised that to upgrade a recently bought laptop that has come with Windows 8 Home Premium I need to purchase the Pro Pack. Now I have discovered that the price of the Pro pack is almost the same as the Windows 8 Pro Full retail version.

Can you not use the retail version and put the code just the same as the Pro Pack?

Can the Pro Pack be used to upgrade a Windows 7 machine.

I am just trying to ensure that I am buying version which gives me greater flexibility for the future.

Thanks in advance

Now I have discovered that the price of the Pro pack is almost the same as the Windows 8 Pro Full retail version.

Not sure this is correct, at least not here in the US. Windows 8 Pro is now $199.99, but the Pro Pack is only $99.99.

The Windows 8 Pro pack is a Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro upgrade. So, you cannot upgrade Windows 7 with it.

the Pro pack should be $99, and the full upgrade version is $199.
