Attempts to revive unbootable system

Since yestarday I've been greeted with 'attempting repairs' on every boot. The first thing I did was boot to a Win7 backup system on one of my storage drives and ran antivirus scans. Next I and made an image of my main system in it's current broken state. My trials led to Refresh PC being the only way to get my main system running but I'd rather continue from where I left off. Tell me if you think I overlooked any solution.

I tried:
* Built-in startup repair
Log file srttrail .txt reports the root cause is bootmanager missing or corrupted, or something to that effect.

*bootsect /nt60 /mbr, according to sevenforums tutorial
Didnt help.

*bootrec /fixmbr, /fixboot, and /rebuildbcd, according to sevenforums tutorial
Didnt help.

*Sfc /scannow
No corrupt system files found.

One more - make sure you use elevated (admin) command prompt, but can also be run from a bootable windows install disk (Windows Preinstallation Environment command prompt can be started with Shift+F10 after you have selected language and keyboard options):

bcdboot c:\windows /s c: /f ALL

This writes boot system files on the C: drive to boot C:\windows for BIOS and UEFI systems

change the drive letters as required.

If you can get your personal data off, then I'd do a reset, if possible, rather than a refresh--if it comes to that. Most importantly, reset will format.

Refresh your PC—Attempts to solve system problems by replacing system files without affecting user data files. Such files still should be backed up. Installed programs will have to be reinstalled except those from the Windows Store. A list of uninstalled programs is provided. Settings will be maintained.

Reset your PC—Formats, removes everything, and reinstalls Win8. Not even settings maintained. Be well backed up.

Recently after messing with things I ended up booting up with a Attempting Repairs screen that seemed to do nothing for ages, long story short I eventually just left it to do it's thing even though it appears to be doing nothing. After a very long wait it eventually finished up on it's own and fixed whatever problem there was.

If it's caught in a boot loop, restarting over and over then reset or refresh may be the way to go.

    Too many systems and combinations!
I had similar problems after upgrading to Win8. It was due to my mobo's UEFI bios setup. I can't recall the details but it involved my mobo UEFI bios settings, my hard drive SATA settings - AHCI etc, and so on. There are good posts on this forum covering these aspects if you search for UEFI install. Don't be so sure your problem is fixed. Mine seemed to work but then odd things began happening!
