Windows 8 crash. Automatic repair does not work.

I was an idiot and forgot to make a recovery disc, and didnt buy the disc after buying the 40 dollar upgrade. Why are my options? Do I have to buy another windows 8 to get the recovery disc? After I try to do the automatic update, the screen just goes to black with a cursor. Ugh. Any help would be great!
