We have an entertainment company with DJ's and thought we would give 15 Asus S200E notebooks with very nice all aluminum case, 4gb ram, 500gb HDD, i3 Intel and even external optical drive (which 8 wouldn't let them install) with Windows 8 to our DJ's to use in our business for real life experiences. Not 1 DJ wanted to keep it.

We got them all returned back to us within the first month for the following reasons.

1. We use Rhapsody Premier (to go) so our DJ's can access and play off-line our library of 36,332 songs. Guess what? Windows 8 killed that idea and will only stream online due to no media player or drivers to support Rhapsody (to go) Premier. This is the worst move ever and Rhapsody has no plans to convert to 8 because Microsoft killed the compatibility by opting to promote Xbox music instead. We are not gamers and are not about to buy 36,332 songs from their store.

2. Users were unable to complete productivity tasks and took almost 2x longer than normal after completing jobs that required multitasking, file management and production of shows. This is after we provided Windows 8 training that we paid 300 a head for during a 2 day workshop. I just can't believe what Microsoft has done to the business we make our living from. Without any warning of consequence, Microsoft has released an OS (Windows 8) that stops your business it it's tracks. This means, no song data compilations, no portable listening offline with Rhapsody and list list just goes on and on. Requiring you to log in at Microsoft every-time you want to use your machines full resources.

3. We have used Windows products for 24 years in our business and Windows 8 for PC Productivity & Multitasking falls below the ratings of Vista. Why would Microsoft design and OS that classified all businesses users to suddenly want to become unproductive at work and be destined to use a tablet or phone that is really only suited for reading online email, Facebook, visit the game app store, be inundated with news headlines, the weather outside, getting hammered by a bunch of useless tiles, be restricted from the start features and most of all, Why Break What was working great for business???

Microsoft should have released a mobile version of 8 and a PC version of 8. This is just insane and we gave it a fair shot but the holes and lack of support in Windows 8 for the PC Business User for our business is nowhere to be found and unsupported in many instances on many platforms. We are returning 5,300.00 dollars worth of this terrible OS. The Windows 8 design that almost killed our business. Thank goodness it is the slow season and we still have our Windows 7 Professional PC USER FRIENDLY DEVICES FOR BUSINESS.

If you are in business please heed this warning. Study up before you switch and read everyone's reviews and opinions. If you just like to Facebook, game, chat, email and living a life that LACKS the need to experience productivity and multitasking in business then 8 is for you. If you are productive and need efficiency, STAY WITH 7.

Why has Microsoft not addressed these issues and why have they BLOCKED the ability to downgrade our devices to Windows 7 so we could use the devices in our music business? We will not become web surfers, chatters and victims of greed. Why would you ask us to purchase 36,332 songs to use Windows 8 Xbox as a portable offline playback device for our DJ's? Has Microsoft engineers and management lost their minds?

You are correct and even if you upgrade to Windows 8 pro you still may not have downgrade rights.

It has stunned me to see what Microsoft has done by design to business users that rely on a platform for business that now no longer exists at all and without any warning. This was a very damaging experience. They present the theory that Xbox music is the answer the music side of our business, they have got to be kidding themselves to think we would just agree to buy over 36,000 songs to roll over into 8. This is going to blow up on Microsoft and if they fail to address these and many other Windows 8 Business PC user issues, they should count it for dead because they are killing the PC with this mindset and engineering flaws they are repressing business users with. AS PC World stated - "they threw the PC users under the bus" for a mobile app platform which is the core of Windows 8.

They may have thrown enough PC users to turn the bus over I am no M$ fan boy. The Windows 8 under the hood is also unstable at this time also. The Metro UI is alpha release by all accounts.

It sounds like a large amount of your problem has nothing to do with Microsoft. It's Rhapsody, a company that Microsoft does not control. Yet for some reason, you blame Microsoft for Rhapsody's decisions. Why? Why didn't you test to make sure your software worked with Windows 8 before you rolled it out to your users? That seems rather... well, not wise.

I fail to understand what XBOX Music has to do with anything with Rhapsody. Microsoft does not provide Rhapsody's software. Some people say they've had success using it by setting the compatibility mode to XP SP3.

I call complete BS about any claims about "multitasking" of Windows 8, particularly when you're only using desktop software. When using desktop software, Windows 8 is identical to Windows 7 in all ways other than Flip 3D, which shouldn't affect multi-tasking performance at all (it's just pretty). All features and multitasking work the same way as they did. Anyone that makes this claim is either lying, or simply spouting something someone else has told them.

If your complaint is the start page, then install Start8 or something, and you're exactly the same.

I agree, I would not have rolled out all the PC's without an in-depth test with ONE PC. If that worked OK then others could be upgraded. I used to be a Network Manager (I'm retired now) and we would have NEVER rolled out any kind of update without testing it first, including compatibility with our production software.

However, I have a recording studio and have both Win 7 and Win 8 installed (dual boot on two separate drives). I installed my recording software (Sonar X2) and hardware drivers for testing. As it turns out everything works on Win 8, and if I ever decide to migrate to Win 8, because of testing I know that I can successfully use Win 8.

I have to agree as well, I wouldn't ever buy new hardware without having it tested out first with the new software.

I don't understand, why is Xbox Music a problem and you thinking you have to buy songs off the Xbox Music Store? Do you think Xbox Music is a media streaming app for Rhapsody? It isn't, it's tied to Microsoft's entertainment division, not Rhapsody. There literally shouldn't be a single issue if it worked in Windows 7. Windows Media Player is there in Windows 8 if that's your problem, Media Center can be added on.

Now, I have to say, there isn't a SINGLE thing with productivity or multi-tasking that Windows 8 can't do. There simply isn't, it's basically indisputable at this point. If you're using the Start Screen for apps and trying to get to things on the Desktop from the Start Screen, you're using it rather ineffectively. There is thing called pinned items to the Start Screen, like Libraries, hard drives, IE favorites, folders, and Control Panel subsections. And then you arrange the needed tiles. Change app defaults so the right program is used for certain media. There isn't a single thing in Windows 8 that forces you to use the default app over something else. It takes PROPER learning of it. And I also have to call BS on Windows 8 being only good for social media. Windows 7 can do the EXACT same thing. I've used Windows 8 for well over a year and I've done LOTS of file management, hard drive management with error scanning, STD scanning, and recovery, Office productivity and collaboration, and every other program that I used in Windows 7 (about 30-40 at the peak) and Windows 8 is better than 7. Mind you, I don't have a single thing pinned to my Taskbar and launch EVERYTHING from the Start Screen; yet, I'm not less productive than I was before.

I'm still trying to understand what Xbox Music has to do with Rhapsody To Go. I hope you can explain this out further.

If you pay for a portable music (defined as playing offline) service that Microsoft supported and endorsed for years with Windows Media Player and then you as Microsoft stripped it out with WINDOWS 8 after you have endorsed the download of over 36,000 songs FOR USE IN WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER for portable solutions with WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER for a user of Windows and for your DJ business you would find your replies or complaints to my raising the issue of defects in Windows 8 NOT SUPPORTING THE SERVICE WITHOUT WARNING null and pointless due to the fact that engineers and yourself lack the capacity to understand such product deficiencies AND IT'S IMPACT ON ALPHA PRODUCTS BEING DUMPED ON BUSINESS AND THE CONSUMER. Don't excuse the defects and lack of testing in Windows 8 with a simple distraction to pointless elementary exercises. Any monkey can test systems and move files.

Windows 8 is no longer supporting the Rhapsody service and Windows version of Media Player is only available in Windows 8 Pro for an extra fee and is designed as an app that is not compatible the the Rhapsody media service they endorsed for years and multiple versions of Windows OS that we downloaded with licensing rights to the tune of over 36,000 songs. Another point and just one of many from other experienced IT professionals "Microsoft has done itself a great disservice by coming up with a fairly interesting, unique approach to the ecosystem problem, and then letting substandard marketing heighten people's questions and uncertainties. Windows 8 will struggle in a consumer marketplace that is increasingly turning to Macs to solve its problems."

This loss of support in our industry for mobile agility by Microsoft's lack of foresight in design will ultimately be at great expense to Microsoft and the considerable loss of it's customer base.

I have to say, you must be confusing something because Windows Media Player, the EXACT same one from Windows 7, is still in Windows 8. Windows Media CENTER however, is a feature that needs to be upgraded to. See, I don't know how Rhapsody To Go works, could you describe how it's used? Such as, do you use Media Player or Media Center to use the service?

macs....

TOTALLY WITHIN MICROSOFT'S CONTROL. Point is null when you have a design by a company with alternative strategy. Everything was fine until GREED AND CONTROL STEPPED IN.

ENDPOINT FOR MICROSOFT: Failure to launch by design unacceptable or conducive to existing customers.

Windows 8 Point and fact: A few weeks ago, a new and free Windows 8 app was approved by Microsoft to be published on the Windows Store. The app was titled Windows 8 Complaints and it was designed solely to allow people to write up their issues with Microsoft's latest PC operating system. According to the app's description: Windows 8 Complaints app allows you to post your complaints and read/listen to the complaints of others. Whether you miss the start button or you don't like the color purple that they use, let it be known and listen to the thoughts of others to gain new ideas on why you don't like Windows 8. Windows 8 Complaints app was no longer available for download from the Windows Store. The app's page has also been taken down.

The complaint demand on beta was so overwhelmed they pulled it.

Plain and simple. Microsoft needs a Windows 8 for "mobile" devices and one for "business PC" productivity, tasking and seamless transition consistent with previous compliance and compatibility.

Leave out the double talk and excuses.

Actually, it's interesting that you mention that. There was a complaints app that was removed. The publisher was contacted and said that HE took it off the Windows Store because it became a cesspool of people just trolling around and saying Windows 8 sucks and whatnot. The purpose of the app, according to the developer, was to promote a forum of people with issues dealing with Windows 8 and people to help solve them, much like these forums. Here, we try to solve issues with Windows 8 versus dismissing it as moot, at least of the time.

The developer has said he will republish the app, but with features to make it more of a forum. He said he supports and loves using Windows 8. So....
