Lots of errors in event viewer

Hi,

Since installing Windows 8 Professional 64bit I have been experiencing lots of differnt erros / warnings in event viewer. I have been working with usasma in the BSOD Crashes and debugging section of the forum and it was suggested that I should post in the general forum section to see if others could help with the erros that I am experiencing. I have attached an admin log from event viewer which shows the majority of the erros. I currently have all the latest drivers and Windows updates installed. I have contacted Gigabyte for a newer BIOS and they provided me with the latest BETA Bios that they have but this still dates back to 2011.

I have also installed the latest firmware available for my Corsair 120GB SSD.

I would be grateful for suggestions on how I can go about resolving these erros.

Many thanks,

What errors? There is a lot of data in the zip so what specific errors should we look for?

It might be a bit easier for us to look at your events if you could do what I've shown in the following screenshot. Then we can import your events into our own event viewers which makes looking much easier than in a TXT file.
Clipboard01.jpg

Based on the erros I saw in the TXT file, are you having RAID issues or something? There's a lot of storage related errors in there.

Your event logs (Application & System) contain logs between 11-28-2012 & 1-23-2013. A lot of those entries are old and mostly Information. It is hard to go thru the list and look at each and every event.

Usasma is one of the best at doing BSOD analyze in this forum and he must have a reason to recommend you to post these in general forum.

It is hard to look at these 2 month old logs and we don't know what you have been doing during these 2 months period. For example, earlier you have Flight Simulator installed and this app crashed quite a few times. Another application installed in D drive called D:\Dirt 3\dirt3.exe etc... and we don't know if you still have those installed in your machine.

What I would suggest to you is to start from fresh by:

  1. Run->Cleanmgr and delete all the dump files.
  2. Download Alternative to standard event viewer of Windows, run it and from File->Clear Event Logs and clear all events
  3. Do not install/uninstall any applications except for Windows Updates.
  4. Keep using your PC as usual until BSOD happens again.
Until BSOD happens, run MyEventViewer and take a look at Options and Logs where you can filter the Event Type, We probably interest in the Error/Warning Event Type report. You can produce a nicely layout report in text or in HTML format

EDIT: What JohnOfE recommended also works or you could high lite the Application log and create a custom filter but I rather use MyEventViewer freeware. It produces better layout report.

Hi,

I have done as you suggest and cleared all the event logs so we can start afresh. I reinstalled Windows 8 Pro on Friday 25th 2012 and formatted the drive during the installation so I am not sure why event logs are still being logged back until 28 11 12?

I am not experiencing BSOD's but instead lots of freezing on the system.

Edit- I have also up loaded the Admin event logs as its in here where the majority of the errors are appearing.

Your event log in admin.zip contains all errors that were about Ready Boost and your SSD might not be compatible with this feature.
However, there is an article from Microsoft Error: "Session "ReadyBoot" stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188" in Windows 7 you might want to look at, it is for Windows 7 but would be the same for Windows 8, You had the same event ID and the same error code in the event log.

If a service called "Superfetch" is running, disable it to see if the error is eliminated. I have Superfetch running in my system but I have different SSD brand. A lot of debate about Superfetch, some say you should disable it when using SSD, others say otherwise.
Google about Superfetch if you are interest to find out more.

I'm having the feeling that your problem may be coming from the hardware.

Have you checked all systems requirements to run Win 8 Pro ?

Win 8 is a Giga Bit hog with all of the tiles and apps. The 64 bit takes twice the GB that the 32 bit does.

64 bit will run 32 bit but 32 bit won't run 64 bit. I've found things that don't run until I upgrade.

I bought a new HP 20 All in One desk top last month with factory installed Win 8 and I'm not having any of your problems !

I fear too that if you did a clean re-install of Win 8 there won't be much left on your computer now.

Windows has an evaluation program to ascertain if your system requirements are adequate. I ran it on an older HP Slimline desk top and not only did it flunk, it completely messed up my local area network.

You may want to ascertain if more RAM will help.

Hiya,

Thanks for your response,

I have disabled SuperFetch to see if this helps in stopping the error. I have also attached the latest errors that are showing in My Event Viewer in a TXT file.

Hiya,

Thanks for your response,

I have disabled SuperFetch to see if this helps in stopping the error. I have also attached the latest errors that are showing in My Event Viewer in a TXT file.

This text file did not show any more errors, just warning and it's OK. For example, if you look at the record Number 2279, you probable had a Sandisk Cruzer plugged in and Windows tries to open it and fails, that would point out there might be something is wrong with your Sandisk Cruzor. Warning is acceptable, Error is not.

Please report back if the problem with readyboot is gone so we can help others with the same problem.

BTW, The report is a lot cleaner to read. isn't it ?

Hi

Thanks for your response,

Yes I agree the logs are a lot cleaner to read now I am using My Event Viewer to upload them.

The ready boost errors seems to have gone but the system is still reporting that the driver failed to load for the Cruzer device, the only thing I can think of is that the Cruzer device may not be fully compatible with Windows 8? Also is there anything I can do about the ESENT error that is attached below?

Thanks for your help in troubleshooting these errors.

As you said, sometimes your system seems to freeze, this might be your hard disks having problems.

Open Elevated command prompt and run: Chkdsk /f /r on all the hard disks. Also backup data on your Sand disk then reformat it.

Hi

Thanks for your response, I have done this and all drive are passing fine with no errors. One other problem have noticed is that if I run SFC it will report that corrupted files have ben found and that it will repair these on the next reboot however, as soon as I run SFC again it reports that the same corrupt files have been found. I have taken a look at the log file that it created but its extremely long, is there anyway I can upload that so that its easier to read through?

Thanks,

My Computer

That's good you ran sfc because that's what I was gonna suggest next. The reason it cannot repair the corrupted file because It might be locked by some of the process currently running. Why don't you boot your PC up in safe mode.
Run->Msconfig, click on Boot tab and check on Safe Boot. Reboot Windows and run sfc again, and sometimes you need to run sfc multiple times for it to repair.

Hi
Thanks for your response,

I have run SFC in safe mode and it reports that it found problems and will repair upon rebooting, if I run it again in safe mode it says that all is okay however, as soon as I run it again in Windows it reports that corrupted files have again been found. Do you have any ideas about what I should be looking for in the CBS look that SFC created?

My Computer

sfc recorded all the system files being checked. Look closely for lines that are unusual compared to the rest, it might give you some glue of what file is corrupted or fixed.

When you ran Chkdsk, what option did you use ???

I have just taken a look at the CBS file and copied the entire contents in to Word and its showing that the log is a total of 5505 pages long. One other thing I noticed was that when I booted up from the installation disk and selected repair computer / start-up issues it stated that was unable to repair the system volume. Is there anything else that I can try that is similar to SFC? Or should I attempt to install the OS again but this time selecting the upgrade option so that the OS files would be repaired without loosing any data / settings etc?

My Computer

Lots of things left to try.

Unfortunately the symptoms described are so numerous that several hardware as well as software issues could be the culprit(s).

Anywhere from overheating to power problems, to component problems, memory, lack of adequate memory, corroded memory card contacts and some more.

Software issues range from some virus embedded to incompatibility for file corruption and a few more issues, too, including too much and too many files on the system.

If I didn't miss something one troubling aspect is that of trying various approaches with corrupted files that didn't seem to get fixed. Early on in the posts two error messages were mentioned. The 1005 is fixed by a Norton download. The 1000 is a little bit more generic.

I have noticed numerous posts wherein new buyers of Windows 8 downloads from Microsoft have experienced several problems. Too even I had some problems with one of my older computers that I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 with a store bought Win 8 Pro. I found that in several instances I had to either update some aspect or download drivers. This ranged from the router to network adapters to printer and some more issues.

Windows 8 is very sensitive and cantankerous. I found also 5 issues of things in Win 8 that just do not work like they are supposed to that I am still working on. Win 8 is very fussy and particular. The 64 bit CPU acts standoffish with anything 32 bit. There is some incompatibility.

Win 8 has Win defender and Win firewall. These may be the best FREE protection but even Microsoft admits that they are not the best in the marketplace by any means, Things can slip through and do.

Among the many, those that stand out to me are:

* corrupted files not fixed.

* Possible virus.

* Memory.

Both my son and I have had computers so loaded up with undesirables, including suspected viruses and Trojans that the professionals felt it was faster and easier to just wipe the hard drive and reinstall, instead of spending endless hours trying a whole laundry list of remedies.

Crashes cost me a bundle of money when all was said and done. I finally hired a professional firm to do the fix. They took over the computer remotely and spent over 45 minutes. But they fixed it. They also used some anti virus software. I have an annual contract with them and they take unlimited calls.

If you want the "fix", I think you will need to take a step back, mull over all possible remedies, organize a step by step approach, and use the process of elimination, one by one. When you triage the problems they will fall into two categories. Not the problem and still the possible problem.

In the case of my old HP Slimline I deemed that the time and effort to upgrade it from Vista Home Premium was more than impractical, that it would run on Vista better than on Win 8. So I left it alone.

Hiya

Thanks for your response,

I believe the issue could be more of Windows 8 / Software incompatibility, as I have tested all hardware within the system and it is passing tests fine ranging from benchmarking and stress testing. I have tested each stick of memory in the system overnight with Memtest 86 and both sticks passed fine. As for the optical drive error which couldn't read my Dirt 3 installation disk I have downloaded Burn in test and tested the optical drive with that disk in it and its reading the disk fine in Burn in test so I'm not sure why event viewer was flagging up that error.

I have to agree that Windows Defender does not seem the best protection available as it failed to flag up this threat: Exploit: Java/CVE-2013-0422 It only detected it after I manually set it up to scan the system even though it was meant to be set on realtime protection, it was around this point that the system started freezing a lot and was just generally lagging at simple tasks e.g. internet browsing and word processing. I then decided to reinstall Windows 8 Professional 64bit again before doing this I secure erased the hard drive and then installed Windows again. Since reinstalling things seem to have improved a lot the system is not freezing at the moment, but I am just concerned re the event viewer errors / warnings and also why SFC can't repair the corrupt windows files. I am now also using ESET Smart Security 6 on Windows 8 instead of the standard built in protection.

I see you've said that the error ID 1005 is fixed by a Norton download? I have never had Norton installed on this system before.

Thanks for your help.
