I've come to a realization . . . .

If I give someone produce from my garden, they'll have a meal or two. If I teach someone how to garden, they'll be able to produce their own food. And no, I won't be able to teach him/her in a day . . . for awhile they'll need support. And if I begrudge someone the support they need after having taught them, I'm the one who's stupid.
Reminds me of an old Chinese saying:

" If you want to be happy for a week, slaughter a pig.
If you want to be happy for a year, marry a women.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime, become a gardener."

I wonder how fast this 'fast bootup' from a spinner really is. I don't use spinners any more so I cannot check. Can someonje post the Event 100 data from the Event Viewer. You find it in:

    Applications and Service Logs
    Diagnostics - performance
    Event ID 100
I just did a cold boot and the numbers were much better (~29s vs ~52s).

I suspect the first time I checked the time, I had let the computer boot itself.

That ~52s time must have included:

    • The GRUB menu (10s timeout)
    • The Windows menu (10s timeout)
    • The time it took me to log on

For the ~29s time, I manually triggered the menus and logged on straight away.

I recently doubled my RAM, so maybe that helped my boot time too.
The ~40s to start running programs was timed with a clock in 2010 (or 2011).

When my W8 VHDs were running, they booted about 6s - 9s faster.
