why desktop's menus disappears on start

on my other notebook, dekstop's menu disappears on start,but i can find it on all apps, how ca i get it back?

and i've just installed office 2010, but there's no office's menu on start,, how can i pin it on start (there's no option 'pin in start' while right clicking office's icon on explorer)

1. When it is there, try unpinning it from start screen and then pinning it again. 2. No luck? Run sfc /scannow.

try dragging its icon to the top position , as for office its in show all programs ,and that is still the start ,as it was with qwinxp and win7 and vista ,office was always listed under all programs ,now called all apps

The shortcut for your Desktop in Start Screen is under:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs ======> "Desktop"
It might be deleted by accident or corrupted. It is somewhat a special shortcut and have to be in this folder.
If you have another PC running Windows 8, just copy this shortcut to a thumb drive then re-copy to this folder.
Or if you have a backup image, you can also restore it from there.

on my all apps screen it shows itself in the "Thinix" section as "Show Desktop "
im using win8 PRO if that makes a difference

I am not sure I understand what "Thinnix" section is ?
below is part of my all apps section and it does have an icon "Desktop" and it does look like a metro app. When I unpin it, it's gone from the start screen and re-pin it put it back.

yeah i just found it[desktop ] in all apps on mine ,i guess when i really looked , i guess we all ahve different things showing in all apps .this is what i found first when i looked for desktop
