I have had this problem ever since installing Windows 8, I have even done a complete clean re-install but no change.

Whenever I boot up it will just hang forever on the loading screen, I then have to unplug and boot up again where it will successfully boot up with no further problems, I have to do this after every shutdown, I am running Windows Pro on a 64 bit system, I have tried windows own start up checks etc. but it never finds a problem.

Any help appreciated, its not critical but it sure is tiresome...

Welcome to EightForums orbitpluto! If you would kindly post your machine info in your system specs, we can help you narrow it down. Do you have 'fast startup' enabled? Are all of your drivers up-to-date? What programs are running in the background when you shutdown the machine?

Hi, I do not have fast boot installed, as far as I can tell the only background programs when I shut down are Tune up Utilities and Google Sync, all of my drivers are up to date apart from the graphics card as there does not appear to be one yet for Windows 8.

Try disabling fast startup temporarily to see what happens. Doing so will disable hybrid shutdown--which may be the source of your problem. With the feature disabled, you will do a full shutdown when you shutdown. You also could add this feature to your context menu--which would allow you to experiment with returning from hibernation, full shutdown, and hybrid shutdown--before changing anything. You also could decide to just use the shutdown procedure that works without changing anything.

Hi there, many thanks, disabling fast start up cured the problem, I like the power button on the context menu too, no more double booting for me:)

You are very welcome. And, great, it worked. I like the context menu change a great deal too.
