Hey Dude, Where is my Surface RT?

I live in Ireland!

I have tried to purchase a MS Surface RT. I have tried every possibility!

The only possible way that I can buy one legally, is to buy it in the UK & have to shipped to someone in Northern Ireland (Part of the UK. A real Irishman would NEVER do this. I would have to cross the border into NI).

I talked to my Electronics retailer here that has been in business for over 50 years! I buy all my electronics there.

He told me that the only way he cold get them is to buy a skid load. He says he could not invest that kind of money at the expense of his general inventory!

I have contacted the Irish office of Microsoft. All they do is transfer the call to the UK MS Website. I can fill in the order for the Surface, but at the check out, it tells me they CAN NOT ship to the IRSH REPUBLIC!!

Why in HELL was I transferred to THE UK??

I have contacted all the Electronic retailers in Ireland & no one has them!

PC World told me I had to order them online! But they didn't have any idea where!!

WHAT KIND OF SO-CALLED "WORLD WIDE COMPANY" would deliberately boycott A WORLD LEADING COUNTRY!!

MAD AS HELL!!

The "Old Fart"

TULLY!!

Now you see what us Americans often go through when foreign companies make products, such as Nintendo, Samsung, etc, and we have to wait behind for availability.

I'm quote certain Microsoft wouldn't boycott a "world leading country". They haven't been on the market very long, so my suggestion would be to go to the largest electronics retailer, either in person or online and find one there. If the one who went to isn't a nationwide chain, then they may not be able to purchase them as easily as the major retailers.

Well, Microsoft hasn't really fully rolled out their tablets yet. You can buy them in many countries, but you can't in many others.. And the Surface Pro's still have yet to ship.

In fact, you can't buy a Surface in any brick and mortar store here in the US either, except for MS's own stores. They have deliberately kept it exclusive to their own stores, or online.

According to this, Amazon ships to the republic of Ireland.

And they carry the surface... is there something wrong with using Amazon?

Well, Tully if you makes you feel any better, I don't know of a single person who owns a Microsoft tablet and I have yet to actually see one in the wild. So, maybe nobody else has them either.

I can think of two stores local to me who have them in, physically for sale. MicroCenter and Staples. I believe Best Buy does as well.

MicroCenter does not carry the Surface. They do carry various other RT tablets from other manufacturers, but not the Surface. I was there a couple of days ago, no Surfaces.. Also a search of their website reveals they don't even sell it online either.

Staples, it appears has recently started selling the surface in stores. This just happened in the last few weeks, apparently. So far, I think they are the only retailer besides MS to carry it in store.

LOL. They do seem rare in the wild. I have the ASUS Vivo tab RT which I really like. Same specs as the Surface RT, but has GPS and NFC. Plus, I found it new for $30 less than the Surface. Fast, light, plenty of apps and fully integrates with ease into my Ms ecosystem.

Ok, so the problem isn't that nobody will ship it, it's that nobody will ship it as cheaply as you'd like.

In case anyone is interested - Staples and Best Buy, here in the US, along side of the Microsoft stores have been selling the Surface RT since before Christmas. Two weeks before Christmas - no Surface - one week before Christmas - Surface! They realized their mistake a little too late but better late than never; I suppose.

Absolutely!

I might be dumb, but I am NOT stupid!

The Surface is low tech as far as computers are concerned, but it fills a special niche.

For that money ($500+) I can build a full blown, high spec desk top or purchase a high spec lap top.

I may be old (84), but I can still recognize a "Pig in a Poke".

If you even know what that means!
