Solved Access "run new task/create new task" dialog box directly

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right board, but I'm keen on accessing the aforementioned box directly rather going through task manager due to the run as admin check box, but I can't find the file location. I prefer using the run dialog usually to access apps because I could do without extra effort to merely SEARCH for apps. However I can't use it to run apps as admin (at least I've forgotten the line I might have used in vista and 7). Can the aforementioned box be accessed directly?

Thanks

I'm specifically after the "run new task/create new task" box that's accessed from task manager.

As I was referring to:

NOT the WK+R one, which doesn't seem to have an elevated option anywhere.

I'm pretty sure that dialog is part of the task manager, and not a general OS dialog. You can tell this because it's modal to the parent window. You can't close the task manager when it's open. If it were a general OS dialog then it would function independently.

If you want to run something like that with admin privs from Win+R just use "runas /user:administrator powershell"

Understood about the task manager module then. Have just tried the runas... line on Win+R, but it asks me to enter administrator password. I can't see what I'm typing, and regardless of what I input the result is this when I hit enter:

RUNAS ERROR: Unable to run - powershell
1327: Account restrictions are preventing this user from signing in. For example: blank passwords aren't allowed, sign-in times are limited or a policy restriction has been enforced

The administrator account has a blank password by default. Did you set one? Windows does not allow Administrator to login without a password.

The sole (visible) account on this is an admin account, yet that's something which has been very blurred since Vista and UAC etc. Might you be referring to some "hidden admin account" in that case?

It's not the sole account. Every Windows computer has an account called Administrator.

Normal users, even if they are in the administrators group, run with lower privileges unless elevated. Administrator does not.

How would I configure that admin account's password etc. then?

(thanks again!)

In Computer Management (right click on My Computer, choose Manage) and Local Users and Groups, expand and choose Users. Click on Administrator, right click and choose properties. Uncheck the disable bit and set a password.

Tried the solution, works nicely although I think it is very crude. Nevertheless it's probably the best I can ask for. Thanks very much for your time and help, much appreciated. :)
