Hi everyone. I would appreciate the opinions of greater computer minds than mine. If you check my specs you will see that I have a small and not very powerful laptop computer. It has been suggested to me by someone I trust that with my little laptop I should not go up to Windows 8 which I had suspected before I got my friends opinion.

I would appreciate it if some of you folks wouldn't mind taking a quick look at my specs and give me your opinion as well. I'm down to about 160 GB on my hard drive. If the general consensus is that I shouldn't go the W8 route, I guess I should relinquish my membership here at 8 Forums as I would then not have anything to add to any problem solving, not that I could make any ground breaking solutions in the first place.

Thank You, David :smoke:

GO FOR IT!

I've been putting some windows 8 builds on machines that wouldn't even run AERO in windows 7 but because AERO is now written into the standard VGA driver you will find that some machines can do more on windows 8 then they could on windows 7.

You should be able to run Windows 8 without any problems, but I would run it with the least amount of extra programs and games.

My old Sempron laptop with 1GB runs Windows 7 nicely, so I think that your rig will run Windows 8 smoothly.

Go for it and tell us the results :)

I agree. Give it a go! Many routines and processes have been tweaked beneath the hood (as they always have been) to make use of available system resources more reffectively.

I guess the thing I'm most concerned about is that if I make the changes and they don't work, would a system restore be able to get me back to before the changes were made? Or is there any other way I could delete these changes? This is my only computer and I can't afford another.:D

you have to install win 8 into a partition you create ,about 25-30 Gb should be enough, use a partition wizard disc to create it then do a custom install ,it will ask where to install it ,choose the partition you created.
it should work but if not you can use partition wizard to remove the partition making things back to as they were, its unlikely your pc will break worst thing that could happen is losing your win 7 install so back up your data possibly using an external hd if you have one,try the 7955 build, im using it now and although i had a couple of hairy moments its ok now ,most other people here have had no probs either

I agree with boobah, but if you want to test some software on Windows 8, I would sugest a bigger partition... I installed build 7955 on a 80 GB partition to test software and games. You can use the disk management console to resize / create partitions. If something goes wrong, simply delete the volume you created and delete Win 8 boot entry with EasyBCD 2.0.

No pain at all :)

I very much appreciate both your advice. I will really have to study this as I have no idea what you're talking about:smoke:
