Files get saved in the wrong library when dual booting

So I have both Windows 7 and 8 on my machine and am currently primarily using 8. I save all of my work and files to my 8 partition C: whenever I choose the location, but for applications/programs that automatically save to a library and where I can't choose the location, those programs always save it to my Windows 7 partition E:.

For example, using Windows key + PrtSc takes a screenshot of your screen and saves it to your pictures library. However, the picture gets saved to E:\Users\[username]\Pictures instead of C:\Users\[username]\Pictures. I guess it thinks my main library is still on the 7 partition instead of the 8 partition. The same things happens with games that I play where the save files are automatically saved in the My Games folder in My Documents. The save files are saved in the E: partition documents library instead of C: partition documents library.

Basically, I don't know where I'd go or what setting I'd change to fix this behavior. My default OS is set to Windows 8 in msconfig and all of my games are installed on my C drive, so I don't know why they would save to my E drive. Since the screenshot command uses the same behavior, I'm guessing there's a setting somewhere that's making my Windows 7 library the default. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Brink,

Thank you for the response. I looked at both tutorials and found that the included folders in my libraries are the default ones listed in the first tutorial (i.e., My Documents and Public Documents on C drive, My Pictures and Public Pictures on C drive, etc.). I then followed the second tutorial and set default and and public save locations, but that did not work. I'm not sure about the video game saves as I have not tested those yet, but the Windows key + PrtSc command still saves my screenshots on my E drive.

Did you move your user folders from Windows 8 to the E: drive?

No, I just left my old user folders as they were when I stopped using 7 and saved all of my new stuff to the new user folders when I switched to 8.

If it helps, when I click on restore defaults on an individual library's properties window, it restores the save locations to the E drive path.

Thank you for the very quick replies Brink. It is much appreciated ^^.

Anyways, it is currently 2:30AM where I am so I will try that option in the morning, but in the meantime I tried option 1 just out of curiosity and found 2 folders of each type (i.e., 2 My Music folders, 2 My Documents folders, etc., one each on my C drive and one on my E drive) in the resulting windows that popped up after the run command. The ones located on my C drive don't have a location tab on them to restore default location to, and the ones on my E drive have their default location set to the E drive folder. When I click on restore default, it changes it back to C drive.

When I do this tomorrow, should I try that change first or should I just go ahead with the registry stuff in option 2? Thank you again!

You're welcome.

If you're user folders are actually on the C: drive, then I'd check the libraries first to make sure the included folders are the ones from the C drive.

Otherwise, it wouldn't hurt anything to use the tutorial as a guide to double check to make sure the registry entries and such are the same as in the tutorial.
