Solved Closing an application

I have just installed Windows 8 after years of using earlier versions of Windows. What I cannot work out is how to exit an application. Ridiculous, perhaps, but I haven't managed to find the answer. For example, if I open Mail I can't see any icon for closing it and have to exit via Task Manager. Same with Spider Solitaire. Are there hot keys to do this?

Assuming you have a mouse an keyboard you can hit Alt + F4, some apps don't recognize this command but you can see an active list of running apps on top left hand corner of screen and close them there. Hope this helps.

Two ways with the mouse or touch pad:

* While in the app, move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen (not one of the corners though, somewhere in the middle) and it will turn into a hand. Left click and hold and drag to the bottom of the screen. That closes the app.

OR

* If outside of the application, move the mouse cursor to the top left corner of the screen and then slowly drag it down the left edge. Your running apps will appear in thumbnail. Right click and Quit the app you want to close.
