Hi Rock66,

what do you mean you've tried to copy files from you CPU? Your CPU is the central processing unit ==> the core of you pc?

As far as I understand your question you are trying to copy files from your PC to a friends PC. You run Windows 7, he runs Windows 8.

This should not be any problem. So my guess is that the medium you copied the files to is corrupt (are you using an external HDD or a USB stick?)

Therefore my advise would be to FORMAT the medium using your Windows 7 computer with STANDARD SETTINGS!. Copy paste the requires files to the medium and then connect the medium to the Windows 8 machine. That should work!

you are right I just didn't use the right term ,but if I hook the hd up to my pc all the files are there and not corrupt I tried 2 different ex hd same results. I use the music all the time so I think the problem is going from win 7 to 8

There is no way that Windows 7 can show files that Windows 8 can not. It is simply not possible. ==> That doesn't mean you have a certain problem that needs to be solved. So I will try helping you ofcourse :)

To find a sollution to your problem I have some additional questions.
* How do you copy the files to the external HDD?
* What is the extension of the files you copy to the external HDD?
* Are the files DRM protected?
* How is the external HDD formatted? E.a. NTFS/ FAT32/ etc.

The way, in my honest opinion, you should move the files from pc A to pc B is this:
* Open Windows Explorer and browse to the location on pc A where the files are stored.
* Copy the directory of the files and browse in Windows Explorer to you external HDD.
* Paste the files onto your external HDD and disconnect the HDD.
* Connect the HDD to pc B.
* On pc B open Windows Explorer (in DESKTOP MODUS!!!) ==> you should see the files!

This MUST work. So, don't copy through third party software like Media Player, or iTunes. Just use Windows Explorer.

Please let me know the answers to my questions and try above work-description. I hope this will help you solve your problem.

Actually, there is. If they are using Encrypting File System, or some other Encryption system, then they may not be usable.

You are so true!! :)

But I think that is not the issue in this case. My experience is that, if someone uses encryption, they are absolutely aware off it. So a problem like the one the TS is having shouldn't exist in that case.

And, you have been able to copy/paste some to the Win8 machine, right? Can you put both machines on the same network and set them up using HomeGroup? If you are not familiar with doing so, then it probably is not the thing to go for at this point.

Have you tryed the manual I posted? So copying WITHOUT the usage of third party software.

Please try and post the results.

You might want to copy some documents or other files aswell. Just to try if it works.
