All programs crash when trying to open or save

Hi everyone. This is my first post here, so please forgive me if it's in the wrong place. I wasn't sure where else it fits.

Here's my issue, I've been having some major trouble with all of my programs. At first I thought it was just with my Adobe Creative suite, but then I noticed it was happening on my Office Suite. Then on firefox, IE, etc.

Every time I open up the window to save or open a file from a specific directory, the program crashes. Resetting my computer helps for a while but after a few hours, it goes back to crashing all my programs. I'm getting very desperate as I have some looming deadlines and this is really affecting my work.

I've tried 'refreshing' my system and it says my drive is locked...
I've tried restoring a backup but get an error...
I've tried formatting my system and it says a partition is missing...

Please let me know if you brilliant people need any other information.

Could be a virus, but sometimes it might be the language that your system is in.

Some programs only work with english, so when saving to a directory the letters in a different language will show as "??????"

example C;\ Users\?????????\Downloads\


I've had problems where i couldn't install or save a game or file just because the name of a folder was in a seperate language than english.

This might be your problem, although I doubt it since you are from Ohio, and probably only use english.
