OK guys ... I've reached a stopping point in my work so I'm going to give this guy (Win8 Pro) another try. I still don't need it, but I want to keep an eye on it so here goes ...

So far so good. I think MS may have corrected some things in the latest updates because the issues that made me return to Win7 appear to be gone. The drivers that weren't available for my photo printer are now loaded, the remote desktop seems to be working without the timeout issue I was having and the font issue seems to be corrected so far. I'm still waiting for it to settle down and stop asking me to restart but it appears a little more solid now.

Hi Nax,
FYI, Most of the device drivers that were working in Windows 7 will work with Windows 8. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer of the product to send the updated driver to MS so that it will be included in Windows installation. When you manually check for Windows Update, usually it will list the updates in 2 sections: Important & Optional, the optional updates section are always unchecked and that's where the missing drivers are listed for your devices, you need to put a check for it to update.

When installing Windows, make sure you have your devices connected to your PC and the Internet cable plugged in then the Windows Installation will install the drivers automatically for you. However, I did have to manually install the driver for my network printer since it was not connected directly to my PC.

All my PC's have been running Windows 8 for almost 2 months now and I don't even have a single hiccup so I could safely say that Windows 8 is pretty stable, most of the problems that people encounter are just cockpit problems.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm aware of all these things. (I've been at this a little while. :)) At least two of my devices did not yet have updated drivers when I did the installation a couple of months back. When I contacted the vendors they were clear on the fact that the devices would not work with the Win7 drivers under Win8 and they had not yet produced the Win8 counterparts. Since that was the case I returned to Win7 for the time being.

As it turns out, the vendor seems to have updated the drivers as this time Windows was able to identify same and install new drivers for them which (this time around) cleared the matter up.

Thanks,

-Max :)
