I just upgraded a computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8 with a purchased CD costing $69.99. I researched doing it with another older computer and the $39.95 download. But, alas, all of my system requirements are adequate except RAM. I only have 893MB. W8 takes 1 GB for 32 bit and 2 GB for 64. Further the older computer is 32 bit so even if I had RAM I wouldn't want to go ahead.
It appears that either .iso or 3 GB flash drive will work so I'm a bit curious which way is best.
Too it appears a little bit fuzzy if the OS can actually be installed on a second computer from the download technically and from a licensing agreement compliance. The rule is supposed to be one purchase one computer. Second computer - buy again. What would the ramifications be with tech support ?
MS is offering a download/ upgrade to W8 for $14.99 if a computer with Windows 7 was purchased after June 2012. Apparently they have it rigged so no-one can qualify with a computer purchased before June 2012.
From what I have gleaned and been told the $39 download offer will expire end of January 2013 *( I thought I saw someplace December 2012 ). And the $69.99 disc sold in stores is a promo $130 off which will end March 2013. Then the price jumps to $199.
I passed all of this info along to my family.
