[OPINIONS] Computer or Tablet? - Revolution of Microsoft

Welcome all to (Windows)EightForums!

With Microsoft supposedly "revolutionizing the way we use computers", the market has expanded from just laptops and desktop computers to tablets and "flipbooks", which makes for a larger audience, but is it worth it?

Microsoft aimed Windows 8 to obviously be a tablet run Operating System, just a quick look at the Windows 8 Start Screen hints that.

So, what do you prefer, tablet or computer? Flipbooks count as a tablet considering the have a touch operated screen.

Peace!

Honestly,

1- A desktop, nothing will replace my desktop. Large monitor, keyboard and mouse.
2- A laptop, I need it for my work
3- A mobile phone to stay in contact with my customers.

the rest is luxury

True true. I much prefer a desktop computer with a large monitor, and a laptop for on the go or when I need a quick gaming fix and don't have time for my desktop.

I have a Microsoft Surface RT that I use for school, and to tell the truth, I much prefer my laptop.

LOL - I don't think we can attribute the tablet computing revolution to Microsoft, as much as they would like to lay claim to it. I marvel at how they discover other peoples' discoveries later on (as in years) and then claim them as new and their own. But that's a topic for a different thread...

I do a lot of typing and I like a normal keyboard for that. I suppose I could migrate comfortably to a tablet that integrates to a keyboard based system on the desktop, which is what some of the newer systems do now. That may be only because I've gotten by with a relatively small (15.6") monitor. If I got used to a larger monitor for software development and documentation writing, then a hybrid tablet would probably become unwieldy and I'd fall into malebo's three categories.

We can't, I know companies that achieved it well before, but I'm focusing on their Metro UI tablet computing ;)

Haha.

at a time a 15" monitor was a luxury, I run on a 14 " CTR for a long time look at my setup in the 80's

Wow, nostalgia right there. 14" must have been heaven back then haha, now people aren't happy unless it's 21" or above... :/

you want a 21" , here a 12-14 years old 21" as you see it still work like a clock, 1600 x 1200 , that was a good resolution at the time

I feel the same burden. My first desktop had a 15.6" screen too.
I've pretty much weaned myself off of the desktop and use laptop almost exclusively. Thus the 15.6" limit (because I've been too cheap to buy a laptop with a larger screen, or buy an external monitor). :) My old desktop system is a Linux server on my network for various tasks (backup, etc).

I'm closed in on a 15.6" screen right now because I haven't started my desktop in ages ahah.

I wonder how many monitors you can plug into a laptop, hm.
