Wish list for a smaller smarter Windows 8.

1) Make Windows 8 one (1) DVD with all versions on it. You install what you have a license for. I am so tired and frustrated when you have to find the correct DVD or have to download it from TechNet to do a repair install. Microsoft has done this with Windows Server 2008 R2 do it with the workstation as well. (Yes there are hacks/procedures to do this on you own with workstation or questionable ISO on the internet; I want it direct from Microsoft so you know it is done correctly.)

2) On the above note give us a lot of choices on that first install menu.

Windows 8 PE --> to Disk --> Burn CD --> Create ISO --> to USB Drive
Windows 8 VDI --> to Disk --> Burn CD (VL Only) --> Create ISO (VL Only) --> to USB Drive
Windows 8 Kiosk --> to Disk --> Burn CD (VL Only) --> Create ISO (VL Only) --> to USB Drive
Windows 8 Starter
Windows 8 Home --> normal --> slim
Windows 8 Professional --> normal OR --> slim Then --> enterprise (different install) --> small business (different install) --> home user w/Network (different install) --> home user w/Network and server (different install) --> home user 1 PC (different install)
Windows 8 Ultimate --> enterprise (different install) --> small business (different install) --> home user w/Network (different install) --> home user w/Network and server (different install) --> home user 1 PC (different install)
Windows 8 Enterprise --> normal --> slim
(Enterprise extras: RDP 2 sessions w\console logon {like Server}; internet RDP via your enterprise secure server or Microsoft Hosted {like TeamViewer or hamachi}; locked workstation force logoff with SAVE & EXIT running documents; theft/disgruntle lockout and/or disable machine and/or release licenses; Enable/Disable Virtual Software install with full logging {User without Admin Right can install software, when machine reboots no traces of software}; accept hidden password in VBScript as well as in all admin functions and command line utilities.)

--> = options after OS type is selected.

Thoughts???

I just say less versions the better. Or even what you said is fine. But I'd say the less versions the better. It's just too many especially withe windows 7.

Do you know the "ei.cfg" trick? If the file is deleted from the DVD, you can install the version you want to install...

Also... I think you are asking too much. All of those versions on ONE DVD? There is no way Microsoft will allow normal people like us to install Enterprise to begin with. And what is Windows (version) Kiosk? VDI? PE? Anyway, I think those should only be downloaded apart if needed. Also all those options...

WHY? WHY? Can we just make a normal install of all the features of Pro then configure it for all the scenarios. Otherwise, it's just lazy.

...Imo.

Yep I know that and I stated it in the orginal post.

I guess the reasons for wanting all this is to make it much easier on the Tech. For MS this is a simple easy thing to do. I guess I made it look complicated but it really is not. It is only 9 selections, and then you have sub selections after that. I don't want all the versions but MS somehow feels that they need them. So I am asking that it be made easy. Right now if you want those you have to do the install and then go back and re-config, re-config, re-config until you get it right. Why not just give it to us on one DVD from MS. No hacking the ei.cfg file, no installing and then removing what you don't want, or setting up a custom install....etc. Or having to download PE or downloading the kiosk mode. Sometimes I am in a place where the internet is slow very slow or I forget my other DVD’s or flash drive. Anyway JMHO.

I also share this point of view...
It's simple for M$ and saves a lot of time for the user.
