Hi all I am new to this forum. I just got a new Hp Laptop with Windows 8 basic 64 bit.
I have been having problems with freezing all the time. The other thing is when it streams it show this thing that asks allow or deny when I click on it it does not do anything. Also streaming freezes. My antivirus tells me all the time I am using to much memory I have 2 gigs. I am not sure how to remove start running programs on this like I did with Vista and Ex. I hate the fact this has apps.
May I ask what specific HP computer this is? 2GB is unbelievably low.
and to unistall programs, right-click the bottom-left corner of the screen and choose "Control Panel". that will allow you to get to the program uninstaller.

Windows 7 and Windows 8 are pretty much the same with different GUI interfaces and Modern Apps. I am sure after struggling for a while learning, you will like it and for Laptop, it will run a lot smoother.
Having said that, 2GB of RAM is acceptable unless you are running programs that are really RAM hungry such as Adobe Photoshop, Video Editing etc... The problem you'd have when purchasing a new Laptop, The manufacturer also installed all kind of bloat wares and have them running at Windows startup, this will in turn take up some of the valuable memory. So the first thing I would do is to uninstall all the unnecessary programs, this would free up the memory occupied by Bloat Wares.
To do this:
Right-click the bottom-left corner of the screen and choose Programs and Features and click on it. It will show a list of Programs installed in your Laptop
Now comes to the tricky part. You need to determine which program to uninstall and if you are not sure, just post a screen shot or list the names, I am sure some of us can help you to determine what to remove.

1. Which model name & number of HP laptop do you have?
2. Adding more memory will greatly benefit you.
Especially since you are running 64-bit OS (operating system).
Does not matter if it is 7 or 8.
3. Can that model handle more than 4 GB model? To benefit from 64-bit OS
If not, it should be exchanged for a model that memory can be increased to at least 8 GB.
I am not sure how to remove start running programs on this like I did with Vista and Ex. I hate the fact this has apps. Apps is new name for Programs.
4. Don't worry about the tiles. Once you understand 8, they may not matter.
For your benefit please drag the Desktop tile to upper left corner on Start Panel
Now the Windows key returns you to Start panel and if you are on Start panel, the Enter key returns you to your Desktop
a. look at the tiles as shortcuts
b. you can unpin them from the Start panel by right clicking, then choosing right option at bottom of screen.
c. or uninstall the program completely from the Start panel by right clicking, then choosing right option at bottom of screen.
d. if you want to remove some, go for it
5. you can also pin tiles to Start panel & Taskbar as well as shortcuts to your Desktop
a. the quickest way I've found to add Program tiles to Start Panel or Taskbar is by going to Start panel
b. type any letter and press Backspace key
c. click a blank spot and scroll to right for 'ALL PROGRAMS' menu
d. right click any program and choose option at bottom of screen
6. to create shortcuts on Desktop
a. the quickest way I've found to add Program tiles to Start Panel or Taskbar is by going to Start panel
b. type any letter and press Backspace key
c. click a blank spot and scroll to right for 'ALL PROGRAMS' menu
d. right click any program and choose 'Open file location' option at bottom of screen
e. right click the shortcut icon in it's folder and click Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)
Personally, I prefer Windows 8 All Programs vs XP, Vista & 7.
a. Vista & 7 would display a limited amount (3) of programs when you typed a letter in the search box.
b. type a letter on 8's Start Panel and 8 shows every program with that letter.
c. using All Programs in XP, Vista & 7 you had to click a folder to see subfolders inside
d. 8 shows the folder name and subfolders right below without clicking a folder
Windows 8 is faster and learning to navigate is small price.
You can also turn live tiles off by right clicking a tile and clicking on ' Turn live tile off' at bottom of screen if you're not sure about removing them.
I turned them all off & then removed all except Desktop & Store (store is used to get apps)
More memory will definetly help you.
In the meantime like topgundcp says, stopping running programs will help.

Is there a way to downgrade to windows 7???
Confused by now? I'd take the laptop back or RMA it. You could ask for a replacement or you could choose another brand or model. If you want to install Win7 (and don't already have one), then buy a full install Win7 DVD. Choose either Win7 Home Premium or Win7 Ultimate. Of course you will have to install your software and backup your files to, for example, an external hard drive for later transfer to the new Win7 installation.
I am doing light tasks on a Windows 8 installed older laptop with 2 GB RAM. 2 GB not a problem for light tasks.

Yes thanks. Well my friend bought this laptop for me and I would return it only I had a 30 day return policy and I am past that now. I looked for ram get this, " There is no ram in either staples and or Office Depot. So now am having a hard time even updating the ram." I cannot stand windows 8 and loved XP better then any operating system out there. However at least seven had a normal laptop feel to it. My pointer freezes all the time it drives me nuts. If I am trying to work on something other apps pop up and it just messes everything up. If I were be real honest I would tell who ever thought up this program, it was a very stupid idea.
People want something simple that works great with other programs and is compatible. This updating things almost every month it so ridiculous.

Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 enterprise evaluation
2 GB is not "unbelievably low". you can have a great experience running Windows 8 with only 2 GB. I have on a pair of laptops that only have 2 GB and it runs all the software great. The only problem programs would be those that require a lot of memory such as Adobe Premiere. But I run Photoshop and it runs like a champ.
in fact, Windows 8 runs better with 2 GB than Windows 7 does as the system requirements are easier. the only requirement that Win 8 has over Win 7 is you should upgrade your graphics card with Win 8.
what antivirus are you running? Windows 8 comes with Windows Defender which is more than adequate for your firewall, antivirus, and malware needs. The most resource-intensive antivirus software include Avast, McAfee, and Norton. The only third-party antivirus I feel comfortable recommending is Kaspersky. If you're not using Kaspersky, go with the free and good Windows Defender. Uninstall other antivirus.
