    Windows 8.1

Windows 7 runs fine on my sister's T42. A bit slow, but it run fine. it only has 1GB.

I think the problem is in the software. I believe your best bet is to do a clean install, with the only software you bring over are basic drivers and the applications you want.

These are the instructions you can use:
How to Do a Clean Install of Windows 8

You will need your windows 8 key (usually located on the bottom of your laptop) and a clean copy of Windows 8 (a little trickier, but [url=]this tutorial seems to show you how to do it[url]). I don't think you need to burn the .iso or extract it to a disk, just double-click on it and windows 8 will install.

You should wait for someone to verify these instructions, because I'm not 100% sure f it works with the OEM version.

Techwomen ▬ what is the model # of your HP? 2GB memory for Win 8 64-bit is not the same as 2GB memory for Win 8 32-bit.

64-bit Operating System starts to run smooth with 4GB and is good for email, office documents, low end graphics or games.

If you tell us which model you have, we can help you determine how much memory you can add. As well as suggest where to buy it
    without getting ripped off.

More than likely, more memory will help you.
The information I found was for HP 6000 desktops of years ago. Which may be why Staples said they don't have memory for it.
The old ones used (out of stock SD RAM) and yours needs DDR3 RAM
Then in the laptop line but there are so many versions of the HP 6000.

If you can copy model # completely or serial # someone can help you. Or contact HP.
$30-50 will buy plenty of DDR3 memory and you'll think your machine is on steroids.

    Win 8

Remove the bloat, 2meg Ram should work OK.
Uninstall any 3rd party Anti Virus, Windows defender is built in and is fine.
Get rid of all those pointless apps in the modern UI, there is nothing there that you will ever need , right click on a tile and uninstall. Install StartIsBack and you have a properly functioning Windows8 instead of the FullScreen8 that Microsoft has tried to foist upon us all!

well I wonder how you can qualify it as great experience, I have 8 GB and look I just open the browser to this forum and my PC use over 2 gb of ram , my HD will swap like hell if I have only 2 GB of ram . No offence to any one , but in 2012, 4 gb is the minimum to enjoy Windows 8
