Hi,
I don't really like Windows 8 that much and i know microsoft is giving refunds no questions asked.
Anyway i was wondering is there a way to get a refund without calling Microsoft, as I don't like talking to sales people.
Can i like email them or something?

Isn't there an email contact address for refunds in the email you got with your product key?

I seem to remember there was something like that in mine.

A lot of us are finding it was a waste of £25 .

Well I'm glad im not the only one feeling i wasted my money.

My email adress only came with links to re download the OS or order a physical copy. Along with a link that takes me to there support page wich just list phone numbers and not email adresses :(

Do you really expect that Microsoft would conduct any kind of financial transaction over email? You know, insecure email, that travels in plain text that can be intercepted in any of a number of places?

You really want to give someone your credit card information for a refund via email? Really?

Are Microsoft black-listing the keys for the copies they've refunded? If not, what's to stop someone paying for it, getting the downloads(s) and key(s), and then claiming that they don't like it, thereby getting a refund and still having the download(s) and key(s)?

I've never heard of M$ (or any software seller, for that matter) giving out refunds. I would have to see proof of that and not just some post on a website or Facebook page. Let us know if you get a refund, I'm highly skeptical... but that's just me.

If you've already paid for it, why give it back? As you said, there are ways to make it more like a typical desktop OS, but you'd benefit from it being faster and more secure than 7 was. Too many people are giving up on Windows 8 too soon because it's different. That doesn't make it worse.

I have not heard of any refunds. People should really have tried the free pre release versions before actually paying money for it. Oh well, at least it was cheaper than in the past.

Why would i want to waste my time instailling a new OS and then installing features that are included in an older version of Windows.

If you install it and got it to run you won't get a refund. Most software companies make terrible software and just because its not appealing doesn't mean they will give out refunds. Your stuck with it, unless you have technical problems EVEN installing it or getting it to work no refund. Seems like you already tried it and activated.
However sometimes managers are nice enough and give the customer what they want.

I highly doubt you can get a refund through email. Microsoft doesn't want you to be able to get you money back at the slightest whim, so you have to actually work for it.

If they didn't do refunds for Vista why on earth would they refund your money for Windows 8 because you don't like it?

Interesting. I was expecting a policy similar to that of most US retail stores, who won't accept returns of opened software. (Which would imply no refunds for downloaded software.) The link doesn't appear to explicitly state that Microsoft will give a refund for downloaded software, but it seems likely enough.

I think I'd be willing to spend a few minutes on the phone to recoup $40US (or the local equivalent) if I thought that Win8 was unusable. But then, I'm not phobic about listening to South Asian accents.

It doesn't take long at all to do a clean install. Two hours, tops, if you plan ahead. Besides, Windows 8 is faster and more secure.
