Hi!

I have just got windows 8 and I have some problems. When I'm surfing the internet, and if I swipe my finger over the mousepad, ex to the right, the screen suddenly shifts to the start screen. Its extremly annoying. Does somebody know how I can prevent this from happening? :)

There is a possibility that you are hitting a program key on the side of your mouse that moves to the start screen.
If not I'd sure like to know where you got your mouse pad and if it is wireless.

I'm not using a mouse, but the touchpad on my laptop :)

I can't duplicate what is happening to you. Is it possible that you are swiping into, e.g., the top right corner. If so, then you would activate the charm bar. But, you'd have to do additional motion to get to the Start screen.

No, it usually happens when the cursor is in the middle of the screen. It doesn't always go back to the start screen, sometimes it goes back to another app that I have open, f.ex. skype or e-mail :s

Are you swiping one finger, or multiple? And how is your touchpad configured for single and multiple finger swipes?

I usually use just one finger. I'm not sure, my laptop is completely new, its ASUS K55VJ 15.6" HD.

Most new laptops support multi-stroke jestures. So you need to be sure you only have one finger touching the touchpad. It's quite easy to have two touching if you're not aware of it. You can check the various settings in the control panel.

Moving back one app is a "feature" on my Logitech mouse. You might check the manual or settings for your device and see how the edges are set up.

On new Windows 8 laptops, the touch gestures are there with the touch pad, regardless of where the mouse pointer is at.

You swipe a finger from the left side of the touchpad, like right on the edge inwards, will switch apps.

Swipe a finger from the right edge of the pad inwards, pulls up the Charms bar.

Either from the top or bottom, a finger swipe inwards towards the middle of the touch pad will open the app command bar.

These are Edge Actions. If you don't like one or more, go to Control Panel | Mouse Settings, look for Edge Actions, and change the setting.

FYI, the touchpad support for gestures is a feature of the Synaptics driver, and not "built into" Windows.

Also, gestures only work from the extreme edge of the pad, to differentiate them from normal mouse movements.

Can you adjust the sensitivity of your touchpad thro control panel? Mine does double-tap to scroll and it was SO sensitive, But i fixed it by reducing the sensitivity in control panel>mouse. It could be worth a try. Wenda.

Thank you for all your answers. I think I have figured it out. I went to PC settings -> General -> allow changing between apps, and I turned this function off :)
