One of my programs will not totally work using windows 8

We bought a new computer with pre-loaded windows 8. One of my programs will not allow me to enter numerals and its an accounting type program. I called the software company and they said its probably a windows 8 problem and they have no intention of fixing it since most of their clients do not yet have windows 8. What can I do?

Hi Elliotu, First it would be interesting to know the name of the program concerned; that may assist someone to provide a solution to your problem.
Second it would also assist other users to be aware of the possible flaw in the program concerned and of the negative attitude of the supplier.
Finally, have you tried to run the program using Compatibility Mode. If it's so 'new' then one would expect it to run as Windows 7.
The Tutorial Section on this Forum will show you how to select and run Compatibility.

aos office management. Its a medical management software company. Because of the cost of these programs, it would have to not work at all in order to force a user to abandon it entirely. I am going to find out how to use compatability mode. Is there a way of converting to windows 7 pro if the comp mode does not solve the problem?

Which tutorial will show me how to use the compatibility mode?

My two Sony Video and picture program software only a year old, won't even install on one of my five computers I installed Win8 on, and there is no way of reaching Sony regarding this problem as they don't respond. Their feelings are buy new software and I feel it's the same with many others they won't fix something that they can replace and make money from. I feel Win8 is a basicly good O.S. do I like all the changes from win7? no I don't but it still is what Microsoft has offered and it's what many will have to get used to. For now I am glad it's just installed on one computer.

You just right click the icon in the start page and choose "Open File Location", then right click on the icon, and choose properties. Go to the Compatibility tab, and the section called Compatibility mode. Enable it, and select compatibility mode you want.

In addition I believe it may be possible to revert to W7 from W8 but I'm not sure how.
See the 'windows 8 sucks' thread which is next to yours on this Forum and see in it and I quote "If your new machine came with win 8 PRO, I believe you can install win7 or Vista instead without needing to buy another license." This is posted within that thread and searching the Tutorial section may well produce an answer. However I would certainly give the Compatibility Mode a try and if possible stay with W8 - it is good providing you just do a little research of the Tutorials Section; in there you will find all the answers you require to become happy using W8.

On a side note, has anyone ever had compatibility mode fix anything? I have tried it many times over the years and it never did jack squat.

To the OP, I hope this isn't the case for you!

Yes. Compatibility mode does a number of things. First, it identifies the OS as whatever version you selected to the application. Some apps have bugs that are related to an incorrect version sniffing algorithm, and they they blow up with a newer version.

Another thing it does is enable certain OS bugs hat were present in the previous version, but have been fixed in the new one. Some apps rely on the buggy behavior, and crash if it changes. When you see an update that talks about "improved compatibility", it means they added more bugs to this feature.
