I am sure you are not the only one to have been inflicted with win8.

You need a license for a better/proper o/s.

If your new machine came with win 8 PRO, I believe you can install win7 or Vista instead without needing to buy another license.

XP - I have no idea. Perhaps you can buy it on ebay/amazon

win xp has limited support left never mind the lack of support for the later direct x versions as well as a great deal of software that is out now and to come out that doesn't support xp.

get windows 7 as an alternative.

Why xp? Support is ending in two years, not to mention the drying up well of modern software.

Go with 7 if you must, but I'd learn how to use Windows 8 and not let an operating system best you.

XP is unlikely to work on any new machine, there simply won't be any drivers for the hardware.

I would suggest giving Windows 8 a chance.. get a book, there are several free books available that will teach you more about it.

Worst case, I would not suggest going further back than Windows 7.

Another "sucks" thread. Nice. :)

Downgrading can be a pain on new machines because you'll have to search for missing drivers.

If going to XP... no comment.
My 2010 laptop cannot handle it at all so expect even less than none support on newer machines.

So:
what do i need to do this?
An older computer... Or run XP in a virtual machine.

If you hate 8 that bad, go to 7 as most said.

Contact the manufacterer of the computer and ask nicely for a copy of Windows 7. Better yet tell them you want a copy of Windows 7 or your money back. Or take it back to the retailer and demand Windows 7 or your money back.

xp 32 bits work on any new machine or 2012 motherboard i know i did install xp on 2 of them

on many aftermarket boards this is true, were talking about an HP machine here, custom main boards that often don't have driver support, for vista never mind xp.

we need the physical model number to really tell him it will work or not.

You come onto a Windows 8 forum, declare that it "Sucks" and want relevant help? There's nice people on this forum that would be glad to help if you weren't being so rude.

I would take a guess at your age but I'd say "High School" should cover it. I'm sure the board would accept an apology if you're willing to offer same. Otherwise, why not troll somewhere else?

This is simply not true, particularly with laptops. Yes, the OS will work with the basic chipset an technically function, but most of your devices will not, such as network cards (particularly wireless ones), SD cards and/or USB ports (particularly USB3). Some video cards may not work either, so you would only get basic resolution and colors. That's unlikely though.

Yes that's exactly what I'm talking about: a HP laptop from 2010 doesn't support XP so let's be quiet about even newer models.

the graphics driver is either a standalone chip from Nvidia or Amd or integrated ie using the onboard chip of the intel/amd cpu, now these are all dx11 capable which xp isn't which again leads us to the problem of driver support being lackluster but possible depending, but you will have one otherwise you wouldn't have a display to look at:)

can you post the model of your laptop, it should be on the bottom or under the battery.

older hardware had support for xp, new hardware will either offer it or not, but given xp support ends in 2014 (march? i think) less than 2 years away chances are new hardware won't support it.

there will be differences even between windows 7 and xp, frankly i'm stunned xp is even used at all given how much better 7 is.

google translate ftw...hope this is even readable for you.
