Questions before I upgrade

I'm seriously considering upgrading from 7 to 8, but before I do I wanted to ask a few questions.

  1. Can I somehow center the taskbar items like I can with custom themes on W7?
  2. Does the Adobe CS6 work fine?
  3. Will Office 2010 work perfectly on there?
  4. Will Restorator 2007 work for when I want to further customize my system by editing the DLL's?
  5. Do you know the status of compatability of any of the following programs: VMWare Workstation, Steam games, iTunes, Norton Ghost, FileZilla, WinRAR.

I know the toolbar trick to center, but when you open things that aren't pinned, it puts them to the right and becomes off center.

On my custom theme, it keeps auto centering based on the number of icons. Is there anything like that?

I don't know about anything for that.

You might setup a virtual machine with Windows 8 to test everything in first.

if you want to run windows 8 in a vm to try this out as brink suggests here are some links to help

the windows 8 enterprise edition 90 day trial
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/business/products/downloads-and-free-trials.aspx

clonedrive to mount the iso image for installation
SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive

and the vm, from oracle virtual box
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

you'll need 25gb of free hdd space to install the o/s using virtual box and select the right source for installation once virtualbox is setup.

it's pretty easy to do, it won't run amazingly but it runs very well.

I'm using PS CS6, Office 2010, Steam and Filezilla, and they all work fine so far. I'm guessing most apps that work on Win 7 will work on Win 8.

Q4. Depending on what customising you want to do - you may have difficulty there.
