Solved converting wtv media center files

With Windows 7 I could convert my TV programs from wtv to dvr-ms, and then remove adverts etc. In Windows 8 that option is missing when I right click a wtv file. I'm not talking DRM encrypted movies, just regular UK Freeview. Has Microsoft got a new policy on TV?

I notice that Eight Forums hasn't even got a Media Center section, unlike Seven Forums.

Can anyone shed some light on this Windows 8 TV situation.

I have Windows 8 Pro x64 and got a free serial from Microsoft to install WMC for watching TV using Blackgold HD card.

Re my original question - after some Googling I found that if I set the default program for recorded wtv files to WMC, then convert to dvr-ms magically appeared in the right click menu.

My system for tv -

wtv > dvr-ms > VideoRedo (remove adverts etc) > mpeg2 > Handbrake > mp4

thanks for replies

To solve the issue of playing wtv files on Windows 8, you have to convert wtv files to dvr-ms format. Faasoft Video Converter does well.
