There is a new sp update for the cyberlink cam too.

I'm gona do the in place update I want to keep all my programs as they are, I'll remove anything that doesn't work after, but as far as I read pretty much all the stuff that runs on W7 64 will run on W8 64 even the 32bit stuff, but most likely remove the old drivers unless installing W8 does it.

BTW you can also get the Windows Media player for Win8 free till Jan too.

Add features - Microsoft Windows

As for the partitions, I'll see whats left after the upgrade, than just remove the D ( restore partition) since it won't work than anyway. And the systerm one too. I tink the other one E (tools) is replacble with another sp update, its mainly the HP support thing.

Well bud there are a lot of free DVD players out there, and there will be a lot more for W8 as time goes on. I imaging you could even install the W7 one on W8 using the W7 compatibility mode. So I wouldn't worry too much about that.

can't quite make that out, its small, try to do a copy and paste of the information as text. I'm not sure what that is.

Cool deal though that W8 is working well, I was going to install it myself today, but only got as far as the driver downloaded, It may be next week before I get to it.

So what about the old start menu? you miss it? or did you try one of the start menu progrms?

cool deal:)

I hope my upgrade goes as well on this dv7t. I'm not too concerned about the games thing, even though I wanted a laptop that was equal to my desktop, I just wanted the most hardware I could get for the price :) and to be able to use it for a couple years, now that it will take W8 I think I may be able to use it for at least 3 :)

Right now I'm on my Vista machine, I'm cleaning up my W7 laptop and doing a couple Image backups of W7 just in case. Tomorrow if I have time I will go to my friends house and hook up to his DSL and attempt the upgrade.

So when you upgraded, did you just install the sp59850 with out removing anything? or did the upgrade remove all that anyway?

I have the graphics driver and a couple other items, I assume once W8 is installed it will pickup most updates anyway.

So did you get that start menu program?.

i did the clean install, erased all the parttions and format to keep only one partition.
then i installed w8, when the instalation had finished i start updating the drivers, bios first, then graphics and the rest.
then windows update, and thats all.

LOL well thats one way to clean the thing lol, but I want to keep a lot of my programs, I'm almost sure though installing W8 WILL remove pretty much all the W7 drivers inc the graphics.

So I'll be updating all that too anyway. As for the partitions, its no big deal, I'll just remove them my self. And I think HP has a new W8 tools sp anyway, if you want that. The D recovery will ofcourse be useless, thats why I'm making at least 3 Image backups now :) 1 with Acronis 2010, 1 with Norton Ghost 15, and 1 with the W7 Image program. btw both those programs even though 32bit are cleared to work on 8, so they should carry over as well. What ends up not working can be removed or replaced.

If I ever do get another laptop for a second machine to replace my Vista desktop, I'll just recover W7 on this one and do W8 on a new one, until than I'll have my Vista desktop as backup since I know my scanner and printer work, I won't know if they work with 8 until I install it. they do work on my W7 laptop though.

So you gona get that start menu program or just deal with W8 as it is?

btw I already updated my BIOS to f.1B so that's done, that is one thing that doesn't get changed unless you need to do it.

Install a third-party player

The other option, of course, is to simply install VLC — a free, open-source media player that will play all of your DVDs and unencrypted Blu-ray discs. VLC will also play encrypted Blu-ray discs.

this is for W8 or 7

OR you could try installing the sp for W7 of Cyberlink in W7 compatabie mode, you never know. Maybe they will post a new update at HP.

OH man, OK well installed this rubbish W8, and have been trying to figure it out all day, took 5 hours to get the damned thing installed to a point I can even deal with it.

Anyway at least the damned sp59850 does work, and my graphics are no issue. But just about everything else is.

My Intel centrino wifi is shot, the driver/program just won't install. Pretty much all programs seem to have carried over, I just can't seem to get Norton Ghost 15 to accept my regestration key, oh well at least Acronis 2010 is working. I havent firured where the system backup is, I looked in control panel but didn't see a "backup and restore" icon.

I'm on my old Vista machine right now, I did get Juno dialup to work though on 8, I spent 5 hrs at my buddy's house today conncted to his DSL highspeed.

I'm also trying to figure how/where to enter the media center code.

Also you can no longer hit f8 to start up in safe mode, you have to go to the msconfig and change the boot up to safe, but than to use the regular boot again you have to change it again in msconfig, man I tell ya they sure hosed up this Windows OS, no start menu, no safe boot, drivers won't install. Well anyway its on the laptop and I'll see how long it takes before I say hell with it.

Oh aleseba77 I installed that 8start menu thing, and its not exactly like W7 but it does work.

and wtf is a charms bar?
