G'day,

Can anyone point me to a laymans description of the primary differences between 7 and 8? 7 has just barely been out there, so why the move to 8? Is there some big breakthrough in multi-threading or soemthing else? How is 8 going to be better over 7 - has MS released anything on that?

Give it to me...

Regards,
Golden

I don't think you can tell if Windows 8 is better than 7 - 8 is not out yet (even Beta). Hopefully, Microsoft is not going to provide a fail OS like Vista.

I know the difference between Windows 8 And Windows 7 !!
Windows 8 is an imaginary OS that has not come out yet ! ( at least for some people...) =P
Windows 7 is a great ( non imaginary ) OS that has come out, and I love it ( except it does not really have some of its classic themes, and older/16 bit does not really work...)

+1.

It's interesting how people often form their opinion solely based on rumors and third hand knowledge. Not always, but often. Like this with Vista. Vista sux, says somebody and when you ask Why? Have you tried it?, the answer is No, I have not tried it because it sux!

I used Vista both privately and at work and never had any issues worth mentioning. For me it was like all other OS's: when well maintained and cared of, it did what it was suppose to do, without hiccups.

Windows vista was nice graphic update but didn't add enough to be really something that took them 4-5 years later to create. I'm sure it might have took them that long but I've used it my sister used to have it as her operating system my aunt still has it. It just feels like a facelift from XP which is nice I guess but not enough. Where as I feel windows 7 actually updated and gave us features that made tasks much easier. The pinning of the bar is by far their best feature introduction. It was always annoying using the start button or desktop to get program, where there are only a handful I use on a daily basis.

I hate quickstart menu never liked it and that's something I wish they would fix up better somehow. Vista wasn't horrible I don't think it was as bad as people say the only real thing that bothered me was the warnings that windows 7 have too that are just much more toned down. The only real thing I didn't like was that vista took so long to arrive yet it didn't offer me anything I couldn't have done in XP that I really needed. Whereas, Windows 7 offered so much more but that came like 7 years later so thank god for that.

Kari,
I agree, I used Vista at home and can't say I had any problems. Ok so I thought it was slow on boot up and probably was a heavy resource user, but I didn't go out and bash it. On the other hand, I didn't have any problems with Windows Millennium either.

It's all part of an evolution, you have to be tolerant and work with what you have; make it better. And there were a lot of smart people out there found way to make Vista better.

No need to miss something that's there just waiting you to enable it: Quick Launch - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Forums
