Windows 8 is too expensive.

I paid £14.99 cos I got the Win7 upgrade deal, they charge £24.99 for download and £49.99 for a disk. Now on past windows prices that looks cheap but pricing it like that says one thing. They know it's a steaming pile of crap that people will cross the street to avoid. But make it cheap enough and that might give you some cash because people may try it before they chuck it in the bin. Disposable pricing.

You know, I'm not Windows 8's biggest fan, as you would know if you've been around this forum a while. But I've seen your posts now on several threads and they seem to have but one purpose - to instigate. We call this "trolling". Do you have anything useful to say, or a legitimate question to ask? If so, please do. But mindless bashing is really, really boring.

I'd buy W8 at the introductory price, but wouldn't pay
the same price as W7 Ultimate was.

I simply can't justify purchasing it at full price.

75 quid is a LOT better than A$400-odd.

(Yes, we get ripped-off something shocking when it

    Borderline pathetic.
Just expressing an opinion.

I believe Microsoft have gone up a blind alley by trying to produce a one size fits all OS for mobile and desktop. I think the metro interface is a horrible and pointless mistake. I think they know it, which is why they have priced it so low compared to previous versions of Windows. But it is still too expensive because of these mistakes. They will have to give it away to retain market share.

That's not trolling that's saying what I think about an OS that I'm using on my main machine everyday.

There's way too much win8 bashing on a win8 forum. If you don't like it simply don't use it or don't buy a machine that has it on there. I'm sure there are still win7 machines for sale.

Sorry I didn't realise it was compulsory to like everything about it! As I have repeatedly stated it is a good OS with a terrible UI. I use it by choice but I don't have to like all of it.

This a a Windows 8 general discussion forum and the ideal place to highlight what is wrong with Windows 8. Where else is one supposed to raise these issues, a Linux forum?

Fair enough, but it's getting kinda old is what I was getting at. I've just seen one article after another or forum discussions, or vlog, blog, and whatever other media that has bashed it to death. Ok I get it, metro wasn't the greatest implementation on a desktop. All the issues with Metro have been discussed ad nauseum. Lets wait and see if MS addresses the critiques of metro or ignores it all together. I myself don't mind metro it self, but there have been apps and other minor issues that I found annoying, but nothing that won't be addressed soon enough I'm sure.

Hi there
loads of people on the W8 Forum have parts of W8 to complain about --I for one think the removal of a hierarchichal menu system is totally bonkers for people who run a lot of complex apps that used to include loads of sub menus and sub sub menus.
However CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is always better than just knocking W8 for the sake of it.

Imagine logging on to a Harley Bikers Forum and saying the Bike is the worst piece of Dog poo ever invented. !!!!

I'm sure those bikers would appreciate that.

Cheers
jimbo

It isn't complusory to like everything about it. Hell, I sure don't! It was the attitude and tone with which you suddenly came on to several different threads not merely saying what you disliked about it, but using expressions like 'steaming pile of crap' which give the impression that you were merely trying to get a rise out of people. And that IS trolling.

I am happy with 8 for a few reasons, bit locker, file history and the feature of being able to mount iso files in explorer without using 3rd party programs.
Not bothered about metro or anything like that as I just use the desktop all the time.

Well worth the money for those features alone.

Personally I had no problem paying $39.99 for the ugrade and free Media Center. It was cheaper than the $119.00 plus tax I payed for the W7 upgrade retail disc.

Actually I agree that the OS should be basically free. Full retail at $25 at most, $15 would be good.

MS is setting themselves up to make a MINT on selling apps and getting ad $$$ through the free apps use of the windows advertising API.

Windows should be priced like most magazines are. Magazine subs are so cheap they barely pay for the postage and printing. Why? Because the ads are what really make the magazine money and they want that vehicle in your lap as cheap as possible. Windows 8 is turning windows into that same sort of vehicle...

hi guys,

well i think those not liking Windows 8 are the Windows XP guys.....who finally accepted Windows 7.

Here at home we have 4 computers and i bought 4 licenses. Now it is very simple i like Windows 8, will never go back to Windows 7 AND Always want the next technology. Hardware or Software;

So everybody is on Windows 8 now AND nobody complains.

I use the Metro (Yeah i know, Metro word is no longer valid), more and more......because i can work faster that way.

Am not interested in the taskbar or old start menu any more. In fact when i have to use the Notebook from my daughter (here it still is Windows 7, bedause this machine is not in my house), it bothers me a lot AND I MEAN A LOT that i have to use Windows 7.

So i strongly believe that the Windows 8 haters (maybe this is a bign word) are in fact Windows XP lovers.

I understand that, but i am not one of those guys.

I'm curious... just what is it that you do that Metro allows you to get it done at all, much less faster?

I don't think Windows 8 "haters" (and indeed, that is a rather unuseful term) are XP "lovers". You are simply someone who seems to "love" the latest shiny thing for the sake of it, which is fine, too - it moves things along. But please lay off the psychoanalyzing about why people not might feel the way you do. Which is most people.

Well I am a Windows 7 lover and a Windows 8 "hater" if you want to put it that way.

I think it might me more accurate to say that all Windows 8 haters are Windows lovers actually... Lovers of ANY version of Windows because Windows 8 is almost not Windows at all. Hell I loved Vista! And 95 and XP in their times. Windows 8 is the first windows I've ever truly NOT liked out of the gate.

Most of the hate is just from people who want their opinion validated. This type of arguing can be seen in way too many areas of our society now. I've only seen a few reasonable critiques that to me can foster some change to make it better. Like one person had a huge problem with Photoshop suite and the complete lack of a tree/folder type organization so the program when installed put all the app tiles everywhere making the metro start page a complete mess and difficult to get any work done. For this type of work is where I see win8 seriously falls short. But the type of work I do I don't access the start menu all that often so I can use win8 or win7 to get my work done. That's one gripe I have when some make blanket statements about productivity in win8. It will hinder some, but not all.

Sgage,

all i say/said in thsi thread i already said before, but the Windows 8 bashers do just the same and i do not complain about it either.

in the new start menu i only have to click ONCE to open a folder. In the taskbar i need at least 3 clicks to open the same folder.

True some can be opened in 2 clicks but File Explorer only allows a certain amount of attached folders.

And yes i have to search less to find what i want to find.

All apps open with one click on the IntelliMouse (the center button).

Windows 8 IS faster then WIndows 7, although it may not show on every computer.

Switching between the new start menu and the taskbar (by yourself or Windows) gives you the impression that a dimension is added.

For me i no longer feel restricted working with Wndows 8, which i have with Windows 7.

Is Windows 8 perfect or without bugs, no, but neither is Windows 7 or XP.

Here is another exemple.

Right now i use Office 2010, will have 2013 in a few months (i guess). But Office 2010 has bugs in it, certainly things that bother me.

So nice could say why bring out new software when the existing software has flaws in it.

How come that MS is not able to make the software more perfect.

How long will i use Windows 8......until Windows 9 arrived, unless Windows 9 is going to look like Windows 7 or XP

Jeff

When you say 'folder', I'm assuming that you mean opening a program or a file. I can do that with the desktop (Win 7 or Win 8) already. Anything that I use on a regular/constant basis, I have a shortcut in the desktop taskbar, one click and it's open. I also have files that I use regularly placed as a shortcut on the desktop, so a simple double-click opens them.

In the Windows 8 Modern interface, you do only have to click once to open something, but then it takes over the entire screen and won't allow you easy switching between other programs/files and, depending on what you open, Win 8 will often take you to the desktop anyway. So when I use Windows 8, I do everything from the desktop by default; it's much easier.
