Solved Undeleted Administrator and Standard User Folders

Hi:

No big deal, but worth fixing. Recently, I set up a test administrator account and a test standard user account. Having served their purposes, I deleted them--or so I thought. Now, when I go Computer > C: > Users, I still see both of the user folders. When I try to delete them, I am told that I need administrative permission, but I am logged on as an administrator, specifically, the original administrator on the computer. Perhaps I need to take ownership of the folders in order to delete them, but I have not had to take ownership in such a long time that I am hesitant to do so without hearing from others--that taking ownership is the right path to deleting the folders. I know that we have a "take ownership" tutorial so I can check it out if need be.

I also have the option of stopping sharing of the folders--which would help a little since one or both still show up as shared folders on my network in a place or so. Probably this part of what I have typed is best ignored since stopping sharing won't delete the folders.

Any thoughts?

When you deleted the accounts, did you also tell it to delete the files? That is sometimes missed.

The easiest way to take ownership is to add a Context Menu entry then simply right click on a folder and select Take Ownership. Definitely the right thing for you to do since you have deleted the accounts.

Thanks much. And, yes, I deleted the files. They are gone, but not the folders. And, yes, I'll check out the tutorial more closely.

Can anyone confirm/give a second opinion on the correctness of the approach I am moving toward?

I added take ownership to the context menu. At first the user folders would not delete. But, I restarted, and they deleted. For some reason the folders still show up in Network despite having restarted again after deleting them, but, for sure they are gone from Users--which is the main thing. I hereby officially bestow you a :thumb:. Thanks again.

Edit: I turned HomeGroup off and then back on. Doing so eliminated the spurious references to the deleted accounts in Network, etc. Don't remember if I had to restart to disappear them.
