How is your Windows 8 experience going so far?

Myself, I am greatly enjoying it. :)

After all the problems, after the refresh, I'm still trying to warm to it but not sure why I spent 14.95 on it twice.

Not using it as it does not add anything over Win 7 that I need or want. As to the above poster and Bugs in Win 7 I'd look at your system as having bugs, not the OS.

I use it occasionally and it's doing fine so far, but I'm not going to throw Win7 overboard anytime soon. Everything I want or need to do I can do just fine from Windows 7, thank you. I have no compelling reason to make the switch and more reasons NOT to.

I am totally loving it <3
Upgraded from windows 7, the new windows 8 has all my apps and settings from windows 7. Moreover windows 8 starts in just about 15 seconds whereas windows 7 took whole 3 minutes :)
Just one thing I am missing is the aero transparency for window titlebars :( Hope somebody brings a fix for that.

I'm happy with it. For me the desktop serves as my production environment, and the start screen is simply a dashboard for certain bits of information or quick access to the file system.

I've still got W7 Ult on my flagship as single installation.

I have W8 Pro OEM installed from retail disk on backup machine as a single installation.

I am able to run W8 in what I call Win7 mode, with Metro totally disabled, direct boot to desktop, Orb Start Menu & Explorer 7 imported from W7 ... and aside from a few incompatible programs, (eg Zone Alarm), and a few glitches, (Excel from Office 2010), it runs fine with all updates installed.

To satisfy myself that I have given W8 a fair trial, I have been using it in it's native state for nearly a week now. And repeating every operation I perform on my flagship on my backup computer in W8 native mode without reverting to W7 mode. In fact I've reloaded an Acronis image of W8 in it's native state without any hacks installed. And used every available suggested aftifice from the forum to make it as efficient as possible.

No doubt every operation can be performed. And quite a few of them equally efficiently. However, purely in terms of the number of mechanical steps, and ease of access, it has so far not proved to be as efficient as W7. And certainly nowhere near as economical in terms of graphical space used on the desktop or start screen versus Orb Start Menu.

Even so, I will continue to use it for at least a month or maybe two, to duplicate exactly every job I do on W7, in an endeavour to find easier, more efficient ways of using it.

However, I very much doubt this will happen. I can use Euclidean geometry to prove 2 sides of a triangle are always together greater than the third side by a process of deductive logic, without the need to get a tape measure and go test two or three hunderd triangles by measuring them out. Or Boolean Algebra and logic charts can be used to prove/disprove mutually exlcusive concepts, without the need to physically test every aspect of a proposition.

In simple terms, if it takes 2 clicks of a mouse to do a job in W7 setup, and 3 or 4 in W8 using the most efficient method, W7 setup will always be more efficient. I don't have to repeat the process 10 or 50 times to know this is valid.

So far I've rolled 2 of my 3 PC's back to Windows 7. When the trial period runs out I roll the last one back to Windows 7 to. There is nothing in Windows 8 that makes me want to spend 40 bucks for the upgrade. I'm not a hater, I'm just not liking it all that much.

Yeah, I understand and I'm not exactly sure why I bought it. It can be made as functionally efficient as W7 using hacks, but it's very bland and certainly doesn't have any pizazz that captures my imagination and sets me on fire.

In fact the whole 7/8 debate has pretty much passed it's use by date. Ho hum, what's new?

Ho hum in general! Metro is not worth much on a non-tablet. Desktop is fine once fixed so that Metro is only minimally intrusive.

Modern UI (Metro) is pretty much just a showoff, I spend 99.9% of time in classic desktop. I do like customizing MUI though to make it look all pretty and organized.

Sounds like your Win7 startup was broken. And, note that MS argues that there are few times when Windows needs to be shut down in general.

What I look for mostly in a OS is how it performs. Windows 8 blows Windows 7 out of the water in the performance department, in my opinion. Not only the boot times, but HDD access and response times are faster.

In my experience, Win8 is a bit snappier in some functions than Win7, but not in others. "Blows out of the water" is certainly not how I would put it.
